W&M News and Notes
- W&M will continue conference play this Friday at the Hofstra at 7:00 PM. The Tribe split a pair of matchups with the Pride last season, both games were played in Kaplan Arena.
- Sydney Wagner led the Tribe last season against the Pride, scoring a combined 40 points over the two-game stretch. Wagner knocked down five three-point shots and contributed eight assists in the matchups.
- In its most recent match up the Green and Gold lost to Charleston. Riley Casey led the team with (27). Dani McTeer (13), Sydney Wagner (11), and Kate Sramac (10) all scored in double figures. for the Tribe while Ruthie Montella had six points to go with two rebounds and two assists. Freshman Dani McTeer shot 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. As a team, the Tribe shot 47% from the field.
- For the second time this year, graduate student Riley Casey was named the William & Mary Student-Athlete of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery on Wednesday. Casey earned the accolade after totaling a season-high 27 points with five rebounds and three assists in the Tribe's match-up against Charleston. She knocked down seven 3-pointers, which tied for second-most in program history.
- The Tribe has been impressive from the free-throw line this season, ranking second in the CAA with a 75% conversion rate. On seven separate occasions this year, the Tribe has knocked down at least 10 free throws and the team has shot over 80% five times. Individually, Sydney Wagner, Kate Sramac, Riley Casey, Ava Stevenson, Ruthie Montella, and Madison Magee all are shooting over 75% on the year.
- William & Mary ranks in the top half of the CAA averaging 14.0 assists per contest. Sydney Wagner is ranked 8th in the league with 3.7 assists per game. Riley Casey is just outside the top-10 with 2.6 dimes per outing, and Ruthie Montella leads all freshmen with 23 total assists.
- Freshman post player Dani McTeer has started in 13 games this season and has been one of Swanson's most consistent players. McTeer leads all CAA freshmen averaging 4.8 rebounds per contest. McTeer added a career-best 13 points with five rebounds and shot 5-of-5 from the free-throw line. The standout is also averaging 6.6 points per game.
- The Tribe has been one of the most ferocious three-point defenses in Division I this season, ranking 50 in the nation, holding opponents to 26% from the line. On seven separate occasions this season, the Tribe has held the opposition to below 20% from the three-point line.
- The Tribe has held three opponents to 50 points or less so far this season, winning each of those three games. Under head coach Ed Swanson, the Tribe has held opponents to under 50 points in 29 games and are 28-1 in those contests.
- W&M head coach Ed Swanson enjoyed a noteworthy 2019-20 season individually. He was named the CAA Co-Coach of the Year following the Tribe's historic season. Swanson won his 500th career game on Nov. 26, became just the third coach in W&M history to win 100 games with the Tribe on Jan. 12, and was inducted into the Northeast Conference Hall of Fame in January.
