RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer junior
Alexander Levengood was named to the Colonial Athletic Association Preseason All-Conference Team on Tuesday.
As a team, the Tribe was selected fifth in the preseason poll by vote of the league coaches. Levengood was among 15 players recognized on the preseason All-CAA team. Sophomore goalkeeper
Will Stack received preseason honors as well as one of nine players named to the honorable mention list. He was one of just three goalkeepers selected either Preseason All-CAA or to the honorable mention list.
Last season, Levengood earned All-CAA First Team honors after leading the South Division in scoring with three goals in league action. Over his first two seasons, the Richmond, Va., native owns 10 goals in 24 matches. Levengood also garnered VaSID All-State First Team honors last spring.
Stack played every minute in goal during the spring season and earned CAA All-Rookie Team honors. He finished the year ranked third in the CAA with a 0.95 goals against average and tallied 16 saves to go along with a shutout.
James Madison, who won the league title during spring season, was picked as the preseason favorite. The Duke totaled 62 points and seven of the nine first place votes. They were followed by UNCW (55 points, 1 first-place vote), Hofstra (48, 1) and Drexel (47). The Tribe (35) was fifth ahead of Delaware (29), Elon (24), Northeastern (14) and Charleston (10).
The Tribe returns 10 of its 11 starters and all of its scoring (goals, assists and points) from last spring's 2-4 campaign. Included in its group of returners are four All-CAA players in Levengood, juniors
Alfredo Bozalongo (second team) and
Marcos Villeda (third team) and sophomore
Joe Core (third team), who was ranked as one of the top freshmen in the country by
Top Drawer Soccer in the spring.
W&M opens the season with a scrimmage at American on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 4 p.m. The Tribe kicks off the regular season on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at Old Dominion. The Green and Gold's first home match of 2021 is slated for Friday, Sept. 10, vs. Saint Francis (Pa.) at 5 p.m.
