RICHMOND, VA.- Tribe baseball players Jack Cone and Matt McDermott earned VaSID second team all-state honors as announced by the organization Tuesday afternoon. It is the second straight year being recognized as one of the top players in Virginia for Cone who was a first team selection last season. With two selections, William & Mary has had multiple players earn VaSID awards for three consecutive seasons. 

McDermott impressed all season at shortstop en route to being named the first CAA Defensive Player of the Year in Tribe history. The New Jersey native started all 43 of the Green and Gold's contests and hit .287 on the year. McDermott led the CAA swatting 15 doubles and paced the Tribe with six homers, 25 RBI, and nine stolen bases. 

In the field, the gold glover made just three errors this season racking up a .982 fielding percentage anchoring the Tribe's defense. The senior had 105 assists and 52 putouts on 160 chances and had a hand in 13 double plays this season. 

Cone was named the second team utility player earning the award for his work in center field and on the mound. When in the lineup, Jack patrolled center field and hit in the three spot racking up a .304 average to go with three triples and a pair of homers. He led the team with a .394 on base percentage and finished fourth on the team with 28 hits.

 Cone also dazzled on the mound making 10 appearances and collecting a team-high four saves. In six games out of the pen against CAA opponents Cone allowed just two earned runs in 8.1 innings pitched. He earned Player of the Week honors in late March after having a walk-off hit in game one and recording a save in game two of a doubleheader sweep of UNCW.
