W&M Men's Golf Opens Golfweek Invitational in Sixth

The William & Mary men's golf team continued its strong run of play over the last few weeks on Monday, shooting 290-288 (578, +2) in the first two rounds of the Golfweek Spring Invitational.  The Tribe is sixth overall out of 10 teams, just five strokes away from fifth, and W&M's 36-hole score of 2-over is tied for the 14th-best tournament score in school history.  North Dakota State leads the field at 556 (-20), with Campbell and Delaware tied for second at 12-under.  Individually, Campbell's NO. 36-ranked Pontus Nyholm has a three-shot lead on the field at 135 (-9).

For the Tribe, sophomore Jimmy Taylor (Alexandria, Va.) leads the way after a career-best day.  Taylor is tied for ninth overall at 141 (-3), after shooting 73 in the morning and coming back in the afternoon to record a career-low round of 68 (-4).  That is also tied for the 17th-lowest single round score ever for W&M.  One stroke back of Taylor is 1L grad student Preston Ball (Raleigh, N.C.), tied for 13th overall after rounds of 73-69=142 (-2).  Freshman Will Rieck (Franklin, Tenn.), playing as an individual, is tied for 33rd overall at 147 (+3) after coming back this afternoon in 71 (-1).  Sophomore Trevor Binau (Columbus, Ohio) is also tied for 33rd, in his case opening with a 69 (-3) to tie his career best.  Junior Matthew Feinstein (McLean, Va.) paired matching 75's to tied for 42nd overall, and freshman Matt Epstein (Hopkinton, Mass.) rounds out the lineup in a tie for 53rd overall at 155 (+11), improving three strokes between rounds.

The Golfweek Spring Invitational concludes on Tuesday, with one round beginning at 7:30 a.m.
