Lauren Finikiotis (Gibsonia, Pa.) was named second-team All-State for the 2021 indoor track & field season on Thursday by the Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID), collecting the honor for the first time in her career. This is the second year that VaSID has named an all-state team, which is nominated and voted on by athletics media relations professionals from every college and university in the state.
Finikiotis was named second-team all-state in the distance events, one of only four women in the entire state to earn either first- or second-team honors. Even more impressively, she only had one race during the indoor season to be evaluated on. At the friendly dual with Navy in early February, she ran a lifetime-best 10:12.48 to win the 3,000m. Finikiotis devoted most of her time this winter to racing in cross country, culminating in her fourth All-CAA honor at the CAA Championships on March 5. For her career, Finikiotis has bests indoors of 10:12.48 in the 3,000m, 2:58.79 in the 1,000m, and 4:52.71 in the mile. She was named All-East in the mile in 2020 after finishing seventh at the ECAC Championships, and also earned All-East honors in 2019 after anchoring the Tribe's DMR to a seventh-place finish at the ECAC meet that winter.
Finikiotis and her teammates are back in action this weekend, heading to Harrisonburg, Va., for the Colonial Athletic Association Championships on Friday and Saturday, April 30-May 1. The Tribe is looking for its first conference championship since 2013, and its league-best 12th title overall.
