William & Mary junior captain
Cara Menges (Richmond, Va.) was one of four players from the Tribe honored on Thursday with the announcement of the Colonial Athletic Associations' All-Conference Field Hockey Teams. The leagues' seven head coaches picked the teams, which included 11 players each on the first and second teams, and 10 on the all-rookie team.
Menges was named to the All-CAA first team, after leading the Tribe to a 3-1 mark in the conference and the No. 2-seed in the CAA Tournament. Despite being held scoreless so far this season, Menges was a force in the midfield, often drawing the opposing teams' best players both on offense and defense. She was also one of the Tribe's top leaders both on the field and off. This is the third straight season that Menges has been named all-conference, following a rookie selection in 2018 and second-team in 2019.
W&M's haul also included two players on the All-CAA second team, in sophomores
Tabby Billingham (Dallinghoo, Suffolk, England) and
Sally Snead (Midlothian, Va.). Billingham is the leader of the Tribe defensive line, and has played a key role in the Tribe's current three-game winning streak by locking down the players that cross into her defensive zone. She is also adept at pushing forward into the attack as needed, and was an integral part of the Tribe's penalty corners on both ends of the field. Against Towson two weeks ago, Billingham picked up her first career defensive save. Snead is honored for the second year in a row, after earning all-rookie honors in 2019. She has been one of the Tribe's offensive playmakers this year, both in the run of play and on penalty corners. She scored W&M's second goal in the win over Towson, a tally that was also her first career goal.
Earning a spot on the CAA All-Rookie team this spring is freshman midfielder
Jayden Moon (Spotsylvania, Va.). Moon has appeared in all four games this year and taken three shots. Against Drexel, she assisted on the game's second goal, the first point of her career and the first point for W&M's freshman class this season. Moon's impact hasn't just been on the offense end, however, as she's proven herself a worthy substitute and complement for the Tribe's older and more proven players like Menges and Snead, among several others. She was named the CAA Rookie of the Week on March 30, following the Drexel game.
William & Mary begins the CAA Tournament this afternoon, with a 4 p.m. semifinal against Delaware live on FloSports.tv/CAA. The winner will advance to the CAA Championship game on Saturday, April 24, at 1 p.m,
