Tribe Men Finish Ross Collegiate Classic Ninth overall

The William & Mary men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the season on Tuesday, taking ninth overall at the Donald Ross Collegiate Classic after shooting 905 (+41) for the tournament.  Loyola (Md.) won the 13-team event at 875 (+11), seven strokes ahead of UNC Greensboro, but the Spartans boasted the individual medalist in Tommy Lamb who finished the week at 4-under (212) and won by a stroke.

For the Tribe, sophomore Jimmy Taylor (Alexandria, Va.) earned his first career top-10 finish, shooting 219 (+3) for the week and finishing ninth overall.  He was the highest-finishing CAA player in the event (Elon also competed alongside W&M), and sandwiched rounds of 74 around a second-round 71 (-1) to reach his total.  Junior Matthew Feinstein (McLean, Va.) tied for 21st at 224 (+8), after shooting a 78 Tuesday following paired 73's in the first two rounds.  Sophomore Trevor Binau (Columbus, Ohio) had the round of the tournament for the Tribe Tuesday, shooting a career-low 69 (-3) to move up to a tie for 35th overall at 228 (+12).  Binau dropped seven strokes between each round this week, capped off by his first collegiate round of par or better.  Grad transfer Preston Ball (Raleigh, N.C.) was tied for 51st overall in his first appearance for W&M, carded a 54-hole total of 234 (+18), and junior Jack Grier (Chicago, Ill.) rounded out the line-up at 271 and 82nd place overall.

William & Mary is back in action next week, heading down to Myrtle Beach, S.C., for the Bash at the Beach Tournament hosted by Appalachian State.
