W&M Men's Golf Shoots Up Leaderboard to Take Third at Golden Horseshoe

The William & Mary men's golf team turned in a spectacular final round on Tuesday at the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate, climbing the leaderboard to finish third overall in the 16-team field.  The Tribe shot 288 (+8) in the final round and moved up two spots with a final score of 871 (+31), behind only former conference-foes VCU (859, +19) and Old Dominion (863, +23).  The Monarchs' Jakob Henriksson completed his wire-to-wire win of the individual medal, totalling 205 (-5) for the tournament.

The Tribe had three players finish in the top-10 of the tournament, thanks to solid, workman-like play.  Leading the way was 1L law student Preston Ball (Raleigh, N.C.), who finished with a 72 on Tuesday to score 215 (+5) overall and take ninth place.  Sophomore Trevor Binau (Columbus, Ohio) also closed in 72 to tie for 10th overall at 216 (+6), matching the score put up by junior Matthew Feinstein (McLean, Va.).  Feinstein wrapped his week with a 69 (-1), the best round of the week for the Tribe.  Freshman Matt Epstein (Hopkinton, Mass.) was tied for 54th overall at 228 (+18) for the week, finishing one stroke ahead of sophomore Jimmy Taylor (Alexandria, Va.) in a tie for 57th.  Competing as an individual, freshman Will Rieck (Franklin, Tenn.) tied for 37th overall at 225 (+15) after a final-round 76.  Junior Jack Grier (Chicago, Ill.) was 83rd with a total score of 250 (+40), and grad student Garrett deFisser (Gilbert, Ariz.) tied for 86th overall at 258 (+48).

William & Mary is back on the road next weekend, heading to Myrtle Beach, S.C, for the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Sunday and Monday, April 4-5.
