William & Mary freshman thrower
Chris Arias (Red Bank, N.J.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Field Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, after starting his college career with a bang last weekend at High Point. This is the first award of the season for the Tribe, and the first of Arias' young career.
Competing last Friday in the javelin at High Point's Bob Davidson Memorial meet, Arias turned in a veteran performance. He unleashed a throw of 62.98m (206-7) in the very first throw of his career, setting a lifetime-best and immediately ranking seventh all-time at W&M. That throw would hold up for the win through the final five rounds of competition, with Arias and teammate
Jared O'Riley (Woodstock, Ontario, Canada) finishing first and second, respectively. Arias leads the CAA in the javelin so far this season, and ranks 14th in the NCAA's East Region.
William & Mary will be back in action this weekend, traveling up to Annapolis, Md., for the Navy Spring Meet on Saturday, March 27
