W&M Men Finish Fifth Overall at the Bash at the Beach

The William & Mary men's golf team wrapped up a successful Bash at the Beach tournament on Tuesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C., finishing fifth overall with a three-round score of 882 (+18), and improvement of 23 strokes and four positions over the opening tournament a week ago.  Jacksonville State took the team title in the 11-team event with a score of 843 (21-under), while individual medalist honors went to the Gamecock's Quim Vidal Mora at 208 (-8), after he posted the lowest round of the day at 67 (-5) to win a tiebreak.

For the Tribe, grad transfer Preston Ball (Raleigh, N.C.) led the way in a tie for 16th overall at 218 (+2).  Ball paired even 72s in the first two rounds, and closed with a 74 on Tuesday.  One stroke back, in a tie for 18th, was junior Matthew Feinstein (McLean, Va.).  Feinstein opened with a 74 in the first round before coming back in 72 and 73.  Sophomores Jimmy Taylor (Alexandria, Va.) and Trevor Binau (Columbus, Ohio) were also separated by a stroke, tied for 26th and 28th, respectively.  Taylor shot an even-par 72 and then 73 in the first rounds before closing in 78 to stand at 223 (+7) overall, while Binau once again had the low round of the week for W&M, 71 (-1) in the second round to go with a 76 and a 77 to finish at 224 (+8).  Binau now has two of the three lowest rounds of the season for the Tribe.  Rounding out the lineup was true freshman Matt Epstein (Hopkinton, Mass.), who bounced back nicely from an opening 80 to shoot 75-76 in his final two rounds and finish tied for 41st overall at 231 (+15) in his first collegiate tournament.

William & Mary now has two weeks off before returning to action on Monday and Tuesday, March 29-30, hosting the Golden Horseshoe Intercollegiate at the Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Colonial Williamsburg.
