The William & Mary women's golf team broke the rust off a nearly year-long off-season on Sunday, and despite several good performances in wintry conditions was edged by Richmond. The Spiders scored 318 (+30) on the River Course at Kingsmill, while the Tribe shot 322 (+34). The best round of the day belonged to Richmond's Naomi Mitchell, who carded a 77 (+5).
For W&M, sophomore
Cindy Zhou (Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada) was un-fazed by the cold of late February, turning in a score of 78 (+6) to tie for second overall. Redshirt-junior
Stefanie Guizar Diaz (Clearwater, Fla.), competing as an individual in her first round wearing the Green and Gold, shot an 81 (+9) to tie for fifth overall, matching the totals put up by junior
Sarah Houle (Sandy Hook, Conn.) and sophomore
Mikah McDonnell (Webster, N.Y.). Grad student
Allison Olberding (West Des Moines, Iowa) was ninth with an 82 (+10), and seniors
Madison Elliott (Little River, S.C.) - playing as an individual - and
Audrey Pulliam (Little Rock, Ark.) turned in matching 84s (+12) to tie for 11th on the day.
William & Mary will be back in action next weekend, traveling down to Kiawah Island, S.C., for the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate on Sunday-Tuesday, Feb. 28-March 2.
