W&M News and Notes
- The Tribe and Radford meet for the first time since 2018 and W&M travels to the Highlanders for the first time since 2012. RU snapped a five-game Tribe win streak in the series with an 81-72 victory in Kaplan Arena in 2018. W&M is 2-1 in the Dedmon Center and all three meetings have been decided by five points or less.

- After missing two games following an injury in the closing minutes against American, senior Quinn Blair returned and made a massive impact in the Tribe's game against Howard. Coming off the bench, Blair scored a career-high 22 points in just 20 minutes on 7-of-8 shooting, including a pair of 3s, and 6-fo-6 at the FT line. He provided a big lift, scoring 12 first-half points as the Tribe led at the intermission for the first time this season. Blair is averaging 12.7 points per game on the year.

- Sophomore Connor Kochera has started to return to form after being slowed recovering from an injury during the preseason. At the Legends Classic, Kochera averaged 15 points per game, knocking down 5-of-9 from 3-point range in the two contests. The reigning CAA Rookie of the Year currently ranks sixth in the CAA in 3-point shooting (50%) and 24th in scoring (10.8).

- For the second-straight season, W&M ranks as one of the youngest teams in the country according to KenPom.com. After being the 34th youngest team in 2020-21, the Tribe is the 21st youngest team this season, averaging just 1.1 years of experience based on minutes played. W&M started four freshmen and sophomores in each contest in 2021-22, including all five starters at Norfolk State. The two classes have accounted for 74.6% of the team's minutes (746-of-1000) and 71.2% of its scoring (235-of-330).

- Sophomore Ben Wight is the Tribe's leading scorer and ranks eighth in the CAA at 13.4 points per game. He tallied a career-high 18 points in the Tribe's opener at Wake Forest. Wight has scored in double figures in all five games this season. He also ranks eighth in the CAA in field goal % at 59.5 and 10th in rebound at 6.4 per game.

- Graduate student Brandon Carroll leads the CAA and ranks 42nd nationally in blocked shots per game at 2.4. He blocked five shots in the Tribe's game at Norfolk State. His five rejections are the most in a game by a CAA player this season.

- Freshman Tyler Rice has proven to be one of the top assist men in not only the CAA, but the country. The point guard leads the CAA at 4.8 assists per game, which is also 63rd nationally. According to KenPom.com, his assist rate of 38.7 is 28th nationally. In the opener at Wake Forest, Rice dished out nine assists which were the most for a Tribe freshman in a debut in program history.

- As a team, the Tribe ranks 10th nationally in assist rate, recording an assist on 65.8% of its made field goals. In the opener at Wake Forest, the Tribe dished out 17 assists on 22 made field goals and added 17 assist at Norfolk State. W&M is averaging 15 assists per game, which ranks second in the CAA and 96th nationally.

- W&M is averaging eight steals per game through the opening five contests, which ranks fifth in the CAA and 103rd nationally. As a team, the Tribe has averaged eight or more steals per game during only three seasons (1976, 1980 and 1981). Rice ranks second in the CAA at two steals per game, while Kochera is also in the league's top five at 1.8 per contest.

- According to KenPom.com, Wight ranks 25th nationally in fouls drawn at 7.6 per 40 minutes. His free throws made and attempted numbers lead the CAA and rank 41st and 38th  in the nation, respectively.

- At Norfolk State, the Tribe knocked down 13 3-pointers and shot 39.4% from downtown. The 13 made 3-pointers equaled the most W&M has hit from beyond the arc under head coach Dane Fischer. The Tribe also made 13 against Morehead State in Kaplan Arena in 2019. It marked the eighth time W&M hit double-digit 3-pointers under Fischer and the Tribe is 5-3 in those games.

- Four former W&M players are either playing or coaching in the NBA. Nathan Knight '20 signed his second two-way NBA contract and is with the Minnesota Timberwolves.  He saw action in 33 regular-season games, averaging 3.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per game for the Eastern Conference Finalist Atlanta Hawks in 2020-21.
