WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary head men's golf coach
Tim Pemberton announced the signing of Davis Adams (Raleigh, N.C.) to a National Letter of Intent.
"Davis is full of talent," Pemberton said of the Tribe's newest member. "He hits the ball a mile and can putt the lights out. That's a unique skill set, and he's shown that he's capable of winning anywhere he plays. He's a standout in the classroom as well. St. David's is a wonderful school. I'm confident he'll arrive at W&M prepared to excel academically, and we are thrilled with the potential he'll add to our team."
Adams has enjoyed a distinguished junior career in which he was ranked as high as No. 2 in North Carolina in the Class of 2022. He won the 2020 Carolinas PGA Junior Classic at Kiawah by four shots, shooting 65-70. Adams also fired a 65 to win the qualifier for the 2019 AJGA Wyndham Invitational.
In 2021, Adams finished second in the Wolfpack Junior Amateur with rounds of 71-69. He made a deep run in match play at the 2020 North Carolina Junior Match Play Championship, winning four straight matches before losing in the semifinals.
In July of 2021, Adams had an impressive showing in his bid to earn a spot into the USGA Amateur Championship at Oakmont. At the James River CC qualifying site in Newport News, Va., Adams started the 36-hole day with an opening 67 to sit near the lead. An afternoon round of 71 left him just short of earning one of the three qualifying spots.
Adams has consistently played his way into contention throughout his AJGA career. In total, he finished inside the Top-20 in nine AJGA tournaments. His solid play was rewarded with a selection onto the North Carolina Team three straight years to compete in the AJGA's Carolina Cup matches.
In high school golf, Adams helped St. David's School won both the 2019 and 2021 NCISSA 3A State Championship and a runner-up finish in 2018. Individually, he was the runner-up at the event in 2019. Adams earned both all-state and all-conference honors all three seasons.
