Jacob Jones was named the Colonial Athletic Association Runner of the Week for the second time this season. Jones helped in leading the Tribe to a strong 12th-place showing at the Paul Short Run on Friday.
Jones ran the 8K course in a personal-best time of 24:24.6 to finish in 57th place among 357 competitors. He turned in an average mile split of 4:54.6. He also earned the CAA Runner of the Week honor on Sept. 21 after placing ninth at the Virginia Invitational.
As a team, the Tribe finished ahead of No. 12 nationally-ranked Iona, which was 17th, and 13 regionally-ranked opponents. Included in the Tribe's regionally-ranked conquests was Richmond, who entered the meet on spot ahead of W&M in the Southeast Region Rankings. The Green and Gold also topped Binghamton (#11 in Northeast Region), Temple (#9 Mid-Atlantic Region), Penn State (#6 Mid-Atlantic Region), St. Joseph's (Pa.) (#14 Mid-Atlantic Region), Bucknell (#10 Mid-Atlantic Region), Siena (#13 in Northeast Region), Monmouth (#13 Mid-Atlantic Region), Lehigh (#11 Mid-Atlantic Region), Rutgers (#15 Mid-Atlantic Region), Yale (#8 in Northeast Region) and Lafayette (#12 Mid-Atlantic Region).
Jones and the Tribe return to action at the Virginia XC23 Invitational at Panorama Farms on Friday, Oct. 15.
