RICHMOND, Va. – William & Mary men's basketball sophomore Connor Kochera was named to the Preseason All-Colonial Athletic Association Second Team by vote of the league coaches, media and SIDs on Thursday.
 
Kochera, the league's rookie of the year in 2021, was voted among the CAA's top 10 players. He earned a spot on the second team alongside Delaware's Ryan Allen, JMU's Vado Morse and the Northeastern pair of Jahmyl Telfort and Shaquille Walters.
 
Drexel's Cam Wynter was the preseason player of the year in the league. He was joined on the first team with teammate James Butler, Elon's Hunter McIntosh, Dylan Painter of Delaware and Hofstra's Jalen Ray.
 
Along with being named the CAA's top rookie last season, Kochera became the second Tribe player to earn the VaSID State Rookie of the Year in 2021. He finished the year ranked 19th nationally among freshmen in scoring at 13.4 points per game.
 
Kochera ranked among the CAA leaders in scoring (15th at 13.4 ppg), rebounding (16th at 4.8 rpg), free throw shooting (11th at 79.2%), and 3-point shooting (15th at 35.7%). In CAA play, he became just the second CAA freshman since 1992-93 to average at least 15 points (15.4) and five rebounds per game (5.5) against league competition. Last season, Kochera posted a career-high 30 points and 12 rebounds in a win at Towson on his way to earning national rookie of the week honors.
 
Delaware was the preseason favorite to win the CAA with 19 first-place votes. Northeastern (seven 1st place votes), Drexel (5), JMU (3), Hofstra (1) and Elon (1) round out the top six and each receiving at least one first-place vote. Charleston was seventh followed by Towson, UNCW and William & Mary to round out the preseason order of finish.
 
The Tribe opens the season by traveling to Wake Forest on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. and the contest will best broadcast on ACC Network Extra. W&M started its home slate by hosting American on Friday, Nov. 12, at 7 p.m. The contest will be streamed on FloHoops.
