Addie Puskar scored on a cross turned shot that deflected off a Cougar defender and into the goal. W&M improved to 21-6-2 in CAA openers since 1993.
- In helping the Tribe to its second shutout of the season, freshman
Riley Friesen was named the CAA Rookie of the Week. The rookie defender has started all eight matches and tops the Tribe having played 718 of 725 total minutes this season. Friesen helped the Tribe defense hold CofC to just a 20% shooting accuracy with just three of 15 shots finding the target.
- Thanks to her first career game-winning goal vs. Charleston, Puskar was named the W&M Student-Athlete of the Week presented by the Virginia Lottery. The goal against Charleston was her second career goal. Puskar has started all eight matches for W&M and has been effective at both defender and forward.
- The Tribe leads the all-time series with Towson at 14-2-2. W&M has won the last three meetings between the teams, including a 2-1 win over the Tigers in Williamsburg in 2019.
- Towson is 5-3-2 on the year but is coming off a CAA-opening setback at Hofstra 2-0 on Sept. 26. The Tigers own wins over St. Joseph's (3-0), Temple (2-0), Mount St. Mary's (3-2), George Washington (1-0) and Delaware State (6-0). Nia Christopher leads the Tigers, ranks second in the CAA and 10th nationally with nine goals. Goalkeeper Riley Melendez has a 0.87 goals against average and an 82.7 save %.

Kayleigh Shackford leads the Tribe in goals with two. Along with her game-winner vs. ECU, she converted a penalty kick in the Tribe's season-opening win at American.
- The Tribe roster consists mainly of freshmen and sophomores with 18 of the 30 student-athletes coming from those two classes. In total 15 of those 18 have seen game action in 2021, including nine that have earned starts. In total, eight of W&M's 10 freshmen have seen action.
- W&M alumna Kathy Carter '91 was recently elevated to chief executive of the Organizing Committee for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. She previously served as the Chief Revenue Officer of LA28 since 2018. Carter, who earned her degree in government, was a standout goalie for the Tribe from 1987-90 and still holds the school record of a 0.78 goals-against-average.
- The Tribe has enjoyed great success in the classroom recently. As a team, W&M sports a 3.53 cumulative GPA, following a 3.6 semester in the spring. In total, 30 W&M student-athletes earned CAA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll distinction last year and 23 received W&M Provost Award honors with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
- Tribe alum and two-time World Cup winner Jill Ellis '88 was named the president of the latest National Women's Soccer League expansion team in San Diego in June. The team will start play in NWSL beginning in the Spring of 2022.
