WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William & Mary volleyball's head coach
Tim Doyle presented the Engineering Winning Volleyball: Managing Workload for Better Training & Reduced Injury webinar hosted by the AVCA Wednesday afternoon. Doyle was joined by Dr. Erik Korem, the Tribe's Senior Athletics Director for Student-Athlete High Performance. The webinar is part of the AVCA's Educational Timeout series.
Over the past few months, Doyle has worked with assistant coaches
David Nguyen and
Janelle Sykes as well as Volleyball Performance Coach
Alex Brodjeski to gather data on the average length of rallies, the number of jumps and swings an individual athlete may take over the course of a match, and other stressors that affect the body of a volleyball player. The coaches compiled and studied data from the 2019 season from Incarnate Word, Iowa State, Middle Tennessee State, and William & Mary.
With this data, the coaching staff has worked with Korem, Director of Athletics Performance
Keir Wenham-Flatt, and Associate Athletic Trainer
Thea Lucas to create an appropriate plan to better understand how to properly prepare volleyball athletes for a long season.
Coach Doyle presented the findings to the AVCA to promote an intentional training program that optimizes the student-athlete's performance while also making player health a priority. Doyle is entering his third season as the head coach of the Tribe.
