Getting to Know Meredith Beam and Kelsey Hamer

Meredith Beam
Why did you choose W&M?
I chose W&M because the school has a great academic reputation and I loved the historic campus. The soccer program has also been a very successful program throughout its history and the girls I met during my visit were very welcoming and made it seem like a family I really wanted to be a part of.

First soccer memory?
I bought a uniform for my older brother's soccer team when I was four years old so that I could be the team's cheerleader.  During one of their games they needed an extra player so the coach let me play even though I was two years younger.  I played in every game after that.

Three Words to describe you?
Thoughtful, Genuine, Witty   GTK Meredith Beam

Places you would like to visit?
Prague, Scotland, Hawaii

Favorite Place on Campus?
There's a bench on top of a small hill near the Governor's Mansion in Colonial Williamsburg.  It's hard to find but it's by far my favorite place to go and sit on a sunny day because it's so peaceful and beautiful.

If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life what would it be?
Anything from Trader Joe's.

What is your dream job?
Finding new ways to help people with their mental health.

Do you have any special talents?
I can name every country on a map.  I can also juggle.

What is your favorite TV Show?
Anything on HGTV.

What is your favorite movie?
"Ferris Bueller's Day Off"

Who is your favorite professional athlete?
Ali Krieger because despite being left off the national team roster for over a year she worked really hard and was able to re-earn her spot on the team right before the World Cup.  I also met her once and she was super kind and friendly.

Who is someone that inspires you and why?
Our team trainer, Billy Roe, because he always finds a way to make people laugh.

What are your plans for the future?
Going to grad school for something Psychology or Business related.

What is your favorite Tribe soccer memory?
My sophomore year in our game against Bucknell, we were down by a goal with just a few minutes remaining.  Sully Boulden and I both scored back to back to secure the win with barely any time left.  My parents rarely go to away games, but my mom had made the last-minute decision to drive up so it was really exciting for her to be there and see me score the game-winner.

What is the best class you have taken at W&M?
Nature vs. Nurture or Intro to Creative Writing

If you could play another sport at W&M what would it be and why?
Basketball or Golf because I played both when I was younger and really enjoyed them.

What is your favorite book?
"Harry Potter" or "Percy Jackson"

Do you have any pregame rituals or superstitions?
I always put my right sock on before my left.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
Owning lots of animals.

What is one thing you can't leave your house without?
My house key. I've been locked out too many times in the past.

Kelsey Hamer
Why did you choose W&M?
W&M had everything I was looking for in a school: a beautiful campus, a location close to home, challenging academics, and a competitive soccer program.  The first time I stepped on campus it felt like home and I knew I belonged here.

What was your first soccer memory?
Funnily enough, my earliest soccer memory is from when I was 7 years old and I broke my arm by falling down at rec practice. I wore a bright pink cast for the entire summer and had to wrap it in bubble wrap to keep playing soccer.

Empathetic, determined, and optimistic

Places you would like to visit?
Greece is super high on my list of places I'd love to visit! Mainly because of my love for Mamma Mia :)
