Women's Golf Opens Spring With Strong First Round at Kiawah Island Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The William & Mary women's golf team opened the spring season with its fourth-best round of the season in the first round of the Kiawah Island Classic on Sunday. The Tribe shot a 303 (+15) in the first round to be tied for 21st in one of the largest fields in collegiate golf this season.

Sophomore Sarah Houle and freshman Cindy Zhou led the Tribe in the first round as they both carded matching 75's (+3). The duo is tied for 68th overall.

The entire scoring lineup was within a stroke of each other in the first round. Junior Madison Braman shot a 76 (+4), freshman Mikah McDonnell shot a 77 (+5), and senior Allison Olberding recorded a 78 (+6).

Individual Tournament
Senior Jordan Michalak is competing in a 15-player three-round tournament this week as well. She is tied for the individual tournament lead after shooting a 76 (+4) on the first day of the event. She is tied with Elon's Emily Nash, and the duo has a two-stroke lead on the rest of the field.

The individual tournament is being played on the Cougar Point Course and Michalak will tee off tomorrow at 8:40 a.m.

Notes
Freshman Mikah McDonnell recorded a season-best 77 (+5) in the first round … The Tribe's 303 (+15) was tied for the fourth-best round of the season.

What's Ahead
The team will play the Osprey Point Course for the second round of the tournament, tomorrow March 2. The Tribe's tee times start at 9 a.m.
