W&M Swimming Wraps Up Weekend at Virginia Tech Invitational

The William & Mary swimming teams wrapped up competition at the Virginia Tech Invitational on Sunday evening, with six more top-five finishes.  The Tribe also set another lifetime-best, and had four athletes improve their position on the Colonial Athletic Association's season-performance list.

1,650 Free
The final session kicked off with the 1,650 free, and a pair of third-place finishes for W&M.  In the women's race, freshman Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) swam 17:18.59 for her bronze medal, and improved to 11th in the league this season.  On the men's side, Owen Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was third in 16:19.84, good for ninth in the CAA list.

200 Back
In the 200 back, junior Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.) improved a spot to ninth overall, with a time of 2:10.01.  In the men's race, freshman Colby Mills (Chesterfield, Va.) was sixth in 1:53.49, just a touch ahead of senior Philip Barto (Midlothian, Va.), seventh in 1:53.62.

100 Free
Freshman Diego Cruzado (Vienna, Va.) turned in a lifetime-best for the second time on Sunday in the finals of the 100 free, timing 46.34 seconds for seventh overall.  Senior Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) was 10th in the women's race, stopping the clock in 53.56 seconds.

200 Breast
Junior Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) wrapped up her very successful week with a fourth-place finish in the 200 breast, timing a season-best 2:19.80.  That improved her to seventh in the conference this season.

200 Fly
The event of the weekend was the 200 fly.  Freshman Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) wrapped up her strong week with a second-place finish in 2:03.67, and senior Yuka Kuwahara (Ashburn, Va.) matched her prelims time exactly with another 2:05.61 for fourth overall.  Senior Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) was right behind her classmate, taking fifth in a season-fast 2:05.94.  That improved Williams to 14th on the CAA season performance list.

William & Mary now has the next week and a half off to prepare for the Colonial Athletic Association Swimming & Diving Championships, Feb. 19-22.  The meet will be held for the fourth year in a row at the Christiansburg Aquatics Center, the same pool the Tribe swam in this past weekend.
