W&M Swimming Has Eight Top-Five Finishes Saturday Night at Virginia Tech

The William & Mary swimming teams earned eight top-five finishes Saturday night at the Virginia Tech Invitational, including four that ended up in the top three spots.  The Tribe also had three new entries in the school record books.

400 Individual Medley
Freshman Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) started the Tribe off with a win, defending her top seed from this morning with a season-best time of 4:27.50.  That improved Jogis to ninth in the CAA rankings this season.  In the men's event, freshman Colby Mills (Chesterfield, Va.) was second in 4:03.97, and senior Philip Barto (Midlothian, Va.) took third overall in 4:08.96.

100 Fly
Next was the 100 fly, where freshman Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) continued her strong week with a fourth-place finish in 55.81.  That improved her lifetime-best by nearly half a second, and moved Graff up to 12th all-time among Tribe athletes.  This season, she ranks fourth among all athletes in the league.  Senior Yuka Kuwahara (Ashburn, Va.) was right behind her, taking fifth in 56.85 seconds.

200 Free
Senior Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) sliced nearly a full second from her lifetime-best in the 200 free, finishing fifth overall in 1:51.47.  That also improved her to 16th in school history, and ranks Williams 12th in the CAA this season.  Her classmate Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) was 11th overall, touching the wall in 1:55.08.  On the men's side, freshman Owen Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich.) improved his time from the prelims, and took eighth in 1:42.28.  His classmate Diego Cruzado (Vienna, Va.) time-trialed the 200 free this evening, and swam a lifetime-best 1:41.94 to rank 16th in the league in 2020.

100 Breast
In the 100 breast, junior Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) improved her time from this morning to finish eighth overall in 1:05.19, improving to 17th in the CAA this season.  Senior Ian Bidwell (Pelham, N.Y.) was second in the men's race in 56.04 seconds, good enough to improve to fourth in the conference.

100 Back
The final set of events on the night was the 100 back, where junior Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.) finished sixth overall in 1:00.60.  Next, in the men's event, sophomore Kade Younger (Newport News, Va.) continued to pick up steam as the weekend has progressed, and swam another collegiate-best to finish fifth in 50.36 seconds.  That improved him to 15th in school history in the event, and ranks Younger seventh in the CAA this winter.

The Virginia Tech Invitational wraps up on Sunday.  Prelims in the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly begin at 10 a.m., while the finals session will also include the 1,650 free.
