W&M Earns Two Top Seeds Saturday at Virginia Tech

The William & Mary swimming teams continued to turn in strong performances on Saturday at the Virginia Tech Invitational, with all 13 swimmers advancing in the top-10 in tonight's finals.  The Tribe earned a pair of number one seeds, and 11 of 13 advanced to the championship finals.

400 Individual Medley
Starting things off was the 400 IM, and freshman Kim Jogis (Larchmont, N.Y.) taking the top spot in the prelims at 4:28.58.  That ranks her 10th in the CAA this season.  On the men's side, her classmate Colby Mills (Chesterfield, Va.) was the No. 2-seed in 4:02.73, a time that ranks him seventh in the league.  Senior Philip Barto (Midlothian, Va.) advanced in the fourth spot, touching the wall in 4:13.61.

100 Fly
In the 100 fly, senior Ian Thompson (Alexandria, Va.) advanced as the second seed in 49.62 seconds, while on the women's side, freshman Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) swam a lifetime-best 56.29 seconds for fourth overall.  That improves her position as the 16th-fastest athlete in school history, and ranks her 11th in the CAA this season.  Senior Yuka Kuwahara (Ashburn, Va.) also made the "A" finals, finishing sixth in 57.41 seconds.

200 Free
Senior Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.) advanced to the championship finals in the 200 free, finishing sixth in the prelims at 1:52.45, less than 0.1 off her lifetime-best.  Her classmate Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) was 10th overall in 1:54.74, and in the men's race, freshman Owen Miller (Kalamazoo, Mich.) was eighth overall in 1:42.83.

100 Breast
The 100 breast saw senior Ian Bidwell (Pelham, N.Y.) swim a season-best 56.15 to earn the top seed in tonight's finals.  That ranks him sixth in the conference this season.  On the women's side, junior Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) was seventh overall in 1:05.27, and Kuwahara time-trialed a lifetime-best performance in 1:06.26.

100 Back
The final event of the morning was the 100 back.  Sophomore Kade Younger (Newport News, Va.) swam a collegiate-best 50.74 for fifth overall, and to improve to 15th all-time among Tribe athletes.  He now ranks 10th in the CAA this season.  In the women's race, junior Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.) finished in ninth place with a time of 1:01.08.

The finals of all five events, as well as the 200 medley relay and the 800 free relay, begin tonight at 6 p.m.
