WILLIAMSBURG, VA.- William Mary baseball welcomes Fairleigh Dickinson for Opening Weekend at Plumeri Park beginning this Saturday afternoon. The Tribe and the Knights will meet up for a Saturday doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. and a 1:00 p.m. Sunday first pitch. The games will be the first of 31 home contests for WM this season.
Early season play at Plumeri Park has been kind to the home team as the Tribe has won nine of their last 10 home openers. The Green and Gold has been dominant at home posting a 363-198 record (.647 winning percentage) with just one losing season over the past two decades at home. Coach Murphy owns a 91-58 (.611) mark since taking over the program prior to the 2014 season.
Likewise, the Tribe was strong in doubleheader action last season. Coach Murphy's squad finished 6-4 in double-bill games and had an exceptional 4-1 record in the back-half of doubleheaders last season.
The three-game series between the Tribe and the Knights will be just the second between the two teams. William & Mary took a 2-1 series win over FDU in March of 1971 in Williamsburg. The Tribe secured the series win with back to back shutouts on a Saturday doubleheader.
Preseason All-CAA selection
Chris Farrell will look to replicate a dominant Opening Day performance that earned the senior CAA Pitcher of the Week honors. Farrell tossed six scoreless innings surrendering just four hits shutting down the No. 21 ECU Pirates last Friday.
The series will be the first home action for 10 Tribe freshmen and transfers
Carlos Garrido and
Tyler Solomon.
Gates for all Tribe baseball games open 90 minutes prior to first pitch. All tickets for Friday's postponed contest are redeemable for Saturday's doubleheader. The second game on Saturday will begin approximately 45 minutes after the final out of game one.
