The William & Mary women's track & field team didn't have a whole bunch of entries on Saturday's day two of the VMI Indoor Classic, but what it had, delivered in a big way. The Tribe broke the VMI track record in the final event of the day, the 4x400m relay, while also re-qualifying for the ECAC Championships.
- The 4x400m relay included senior
Gabby Runge (Midlothian, Va.), redshirt-junior
Susanna Maisto (Silver Spring, Md.), and freshmen
Amaya Johnson (Sterling, Va.) and
Carly Swierbut (Newtown, Conn.), and the quartet combined to break the track record with their winning time of 3:46.45. That was also the fastest race of the season for W&M, which re-qualified for the ECAC Championships, and was the third-fastest time ever in program history.
- Earlier in the day, junior
Jadyn Currie (Virginia Beach, Va.) placed eighth in the 60m hurdles, timing 9.23 seconds. Currie ran a pair of lifetime-bests, 8.86 and 8.87 seconds, yesterday in the first two rounds.
- Freshman
Keeley Suzenski (Fleetwood, Pa.), fresh off her freshman record in the shot put yesterday, competed in the weight throw for the first time ever on Saturday. Her throw of 12.75m (41-10) was good for 27th overall, and ranks Suzenski 14th all-time among Tribe athletes.
William & Mary is back on the road next weekend, competing at the Navy Select Meet on Friday, Feb. 21.
