WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis ran its season-opening win streak to four with a 6-1 victory over George Washington on Saturday afternoon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center.
How It Happened
- The Tribe made quick work of doubles, sweeping all three courts to take a 1-0 lead against the Colonials.
- W&M dominated at No. 2 as sophomore
Joseph Brailovsky and junior
Chen Ruo tallied a 6-2 triumph over Ethan Jacobs and Ryan Navarro to give the Green and Gold the early lead. The Tribe tandem improved to 3-1 on the year.
- Sophomore
Daniel Pellerito and junior
Finbar Talcott clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory Jakub Behun and Lawrence Sciglitano on line three. The duo won its second-straight in dual-match play and improved to 3-2 overall.
- The Tribe pairing of freshman
George Davis and senior
Brenden Volk won its fourth straight with a 6-3 victory over Ben Barnett and Zicheng Zeng at the top spot to round out the Tribe sweep.
- First off at No. 1, Brailovsky won his fourth in a row and pushed the Tribe lead to 2-0 with a 7-5, 6-1 win over Zeng. The victory was his 11th of the season as he improved to 4-0 at the top spot.
- Pellerito finished quickly after in straight set at No. 6 to make it 3-0. The Tribe sophomore downed Hanyu Liu, 7-6, 7-5, to push his team-leading singles mark to 15-3. He is also 4-0 in dual-match competition.
- Davis cemented the Tribe victory with a three-set win at No. 5. The Tribe freshman won the opening set, 6-1, before Behun rallied to take the second, 6-3. Davis pulled out his 11th victory of the season and improved to 4-0 in dual-match action with a 6-4 triumph in the decisive third.
- Junior
Sebastian Quiros returned to the Tribe lineup and picked up a come-from-behind three-set win. After dropping the first set to Barnett, 6-3, the All-CAA performance claimed the final two sets, 6-1, 6-4, and improve his record to 8-5.
- Volk rounded out the singles wins for the Tribe battling back for a three-set triumph at No. 3. After dropping the first set, 6-4, to Jacobs, the W&M senior won the second, 6-3. With the match even at three in the third set, the players faced off in a tiebreaker with Volk pulling out the win.
