WEST POINT, N.Y. – The 15th-ranked William & Mary men's gymnastics team opened the 2020 season with a fifth-place finish at the West Point Open hosted by Army on Friday evening.
No. 7 Penn State claimed the team title with a 403.4 and was followed by No. 14 Arizona State (395.85), No. 10 Navy (395.45), No. 12 Army (388.55), No. 15 W&M (377.55), No. 16 Springfield (376.9) and No. 19 Temple (356.25).
Highlighting the Tribe's individual performers was freshman
Aidan Cuy, who earned a spot in Saturday's individual event finals (7 p.m.) with an eighth-place finish on parallel bars (12.65).
Andrew Lyubovsky was the Tribe's top all-arounder and placed eighth with a 74.45.

Floor, 63.25 –
Tim O'Neill led W&M on floor with a 13.05, while
Zane Petras posted a career-high 13.1.
Pommel Horse, 62.0 –
Spencer Schrandt was the Tribe's top scorer on pommel horse (13.05), while
Christian Marsh earned a 12.9.
Rings, 62.4 –
Nate Winneg and Marsh were W&M's best performers on rings and earned a 12.9 and 12.6, respectively.
Vault, 69.05 – W&M's top team score came on vault, as
Collin Lillie (14.05), O'Neill (13.95) and Lyubovsky (13.85) all contributed to the effort.
Parallel Bars, 60.75 – In addition to Cuy's impressive collegiate debut (12.65) that earned him a spot in Saturday's individual event finals, Lyubovsky performed well on parallel bars and tallied a 12.45.
High Bar, 60.1 –
Reid Ross (12.25, career high) and
Connor Bowman (12.2) were W&M's top scorers on high bar.
