WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's golf team opens the 2019-20 season by hosting its fall tournament, the William & Mary Invitational, on the River Course at Kingsmill Resort. The event runs from Sunday, Sept. 8 to Monday, Sept. 9. There will be no live scoring for the event.
Scouting the Field
The Tribe hosts nine schools at the season-opening tournament at the River Course at Kingsmill. The tournament will be 36-holes on Sunday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start, before a final 18-holes with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. The historic River Course at Kingsmill plays as a par 72 that stretches 6,025-yards. Boston, Delaware State, James Madison, Longwood, Princeton, Radford, Richmond, UNCG, and Wofford will join the Tribe in Williamsburg for the two-day tournament.
Scouting the Tribe
W&M opens the season at home for the fourth straight season on Sunday and Monday. The Tribe us coming off of a year, which saw them average 314.57 stroke per round score a season ago.
Three returners will be in the starting lineup for the Tribe this weekend. Junior
Madison Braman runs her consecutive start streak to four straight events, as she'll be in the lineup for the Tribe. She carded an 81.87 stroke per round score a season ago, and has appeared in 21 career rounds for the Tribe. W&M's most experienced player senior
Allison Olberding, 68 career rounds, is also the lineup and is the Tribe's leading returning scoring averaging a 77.00 stroke per round score last season. Finally classmate
Jordan Michalak will earn the start for the Green and Gold and is playing in her 28th through 30th rounds of her career this weekend.
A pair of freshmen –
Mikah McDonnell and
Cindy Zhou – will make their collegiate debuts in the scoring lineup for the Green and Gold. McDonnell played six years of varsity golf at Webster Thomas High School in Webster, N.Y., while Zhou, who is from Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada, played for Montverde Academy in Florida.
The other five Tribe players will also be active in the tournament playing as individuals. Juniors
Madison Elliott and
Audrey Pulliam, sophomore
Sarah Houle will make their season debuts, while freshman
Mimi Taylor will appear in her first collegiate tournament.
What's Ahead
W&M has a nearly two-week layoff before returning to action as it travels to the Pirate Intercollegiate on Monday, Sept. 23 through Tuesday, Sept. 24. The Greenville Country Club hosts the two-day event.
