William & Mary redshirt-junior JP Trojan (Chardon, Ohio) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week on Tuesday, after leading the Tribe to a season-opening win at the Richmond Spider Alumni Open on Saturday.  This is the fifth career award for Trojan, and the second in his last two races.

Making his triumphant return to action after missing all but the first race of the fall last year, Trojan cruised to his third-straight win at the Spider Alumni Open, timing 15:10.9 for the 5K course.  He stayed in the lead pack with his teammates for most of the race, and then steadily pulled away over the final kilometer to grab the win, the fourth of his career.  Trojan is just the second man in the history of the Spider Alumni Open to win three years in a row, and the first to do so since Richmond's Kevin Rhue won the first three editions from 2002-04, when it was a dual-meet between the Spiders and their alumni runners.  Behind Trojan, W&M put all five scorers in the top-eight finishers, and won handily with 22 points against the six-team field.  This was the fourth year in a row that the Tribe has won the event.

Trojan and his teammates have this weekend off, and will open the regular season next Friday and Saturday, Sept. 13-14, hosting the 60th Annual W&M Cross Country Invitational.  The college races begin on Friday night with the women at 6:15 p.m. and the men at 6:45 p.m.  Saturday is reserved for high school races, beginning at 8 a.m. at Eastern State Hospital.
