Kelsey Hinton Named W&M Women’s Gymnastics Head Coach

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – After four tremendously successful seasons as the William & Mary women's gymnastics team's assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, Kelsey Hinton has been named head coach of the program, it was announced today by W&M Director of Athletics Samantha K. Huge.
 
"Kelsey is an outstanding gymnastics coach and an even better person," Huge said. "Having had the chance to watch her up close and speaking with colleagues and student-athletes, it was clear that not only could Kelsey maintain our momentum in women's gymnastics but take us to even greater heights. We are thrilled that she will lead our program forward."  
 
The team posted three top-three finishes, including two runner-up efforts, at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championship, during Hinton's four seasons in Williamsburg.  Additionally, W&M standouts have combined to win seven ECAC individual titles and 24 all-conference honors at the league championship during her tenure.  In addition to the success in the gym, W&M women's gymnastics has also excelled academically during Hinton's tenure, earning 34 NACGC Scholastic All-America honors.
 
"I am honored to step into the position of head coach for the women's gymnastics team," Hinton said. "I look forward to engaging with our alumni and fans as well as continuing the growth and excitement of our program. It all starts with our student-athletes and we will recruit the best and brightest to represent William & Mary. I can't wait to get started."
 
A four-year all-around competitor at North Carolina State (2004-08), Hinton joined the Tribe staff after serving as the Class Program Manager and Girls Team Coach at Kidsport Gymnastics Academy in Burlington, N.C. During her eight-year tenure with the Academy, she was responsible for a wide range of duties that included creating practice plans, providing private lessons, evaluating talent, overseeing various special projects and managing the building. Highlighting Hinton's accomplishments at KGA was being honored as the 2015 North Carolina Coach of the Year.

Hinton also serves as the NCAA Gymnastics representative for the WeCOACH Coaches Council.

Hinton graduated from N.C. State with a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management in 2008.
