The William & Mary women's track & field team got the NCAA Championships underway on Thursday with a pair of strong performances in the javelin and the high jump.  Although neither Tribe athlete will advance to the NCAA Finals, they each improved their pre-meet seeding, coming through clutch under pressure for an average improvement of eight spots over their predicted finishes.

- First up was the javelin, where junior Sam Moravsky (Sherman, Conn.) finished 41st overall at 42.04m (137-11), an improvement of five places over her pre-meet seed.  That brings to a close her third season, which included a runner-up finish at the CAA Championships and an eighth-place showing at the ECAC Championships for All-East honors.  Moravsky's best mark this season was 45.44m (149-1) at George Mason in mid-April, and she'll return next year as the top returning thrower in the conference.

- In the high jump, redshirt-junior Grace Becker (Buckingham, Pa.) also brought her season to a close, tying for 21st overall to improve her seeding 11 places.  Becker cleared the first two bars on her first attempts to get credited at 1.70m (5-7), and took three good attempts at 1.75m (5-8.75) but was unable to get over that bar.  Becker was the ECAC runner-up indoors and the CAA runner-up outdoors this year, and set her lifetime-bests in both seasons, 1.78m (5-10) indoors and 1.76m (5-9.25) outdoors.  She was undefeated in the Tribe's three home meets, including a win at the Colonial Relays, and hasn't lost at Zable Stadium since 2016.  Combined between indoors and outdoors, Becker's clearance today gives her 16 career meets over 1.70m, second-most in school history behind only All-American and school record-holder Lisa Rayner '96, who jumped that high 18 times between 1993-96.

William & Mary is back in action in Jacksonville, Fla., tomorrow at 12 p.m. with freshman Chelsea Wallace (Chesapeake, Va.) competing in the discus.
