Preston Richardson (Franktown, Va.) was named the Colonial Athletic Association Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row on Tuesday, following a strong performance at the Duke Invitational. This is also the third award of the season for Richardson and the fourth of his career, as well as the sixth Field Athlete of the Week award in as many weeks for the W&M men's track & field team. The Tribe has won a total of 10 of the 12 awards given out by the league this season.
Competing not just with top-notch opponents but also wind and rain, Richardson turned in a pair of top-four finishes. In the shot put, he finished second overall with a season-best and CAA-leading put of 17.71m (58-1.25). That was the seventh-longest mark in school history, and was just two inches shy of the lifetime-best he set at the 2017 conference championships. In the discus, Richardson finished fourth with a throw of 50.10m (164-4), his third throw over 50 meters this season and fourth of his career.
Richardson and some of his teammates will head up to Philadelphia this weekend for the world-famous Penn Relays, while others on the team will compete in Charlottesville, Va., at the Virginia Grand Prix in a final tune-up before the CAA Championships on May 3-4, in Elon, N.C.
