For the second week in a row, the William & Mary men's track & field team swept the Colonial Athletic Association Athlete of the Week awards on Tuesday.  Senior Ryan McGorty (Fairfax, Va.) and sophomore KJ Cook (Buena Vista, Va.) were honored after top performances at the Raleigh Relays over the weekend, the third award of McGorty's career and the second for Cook.  W&M has now won five of the six weekly awards handed out so far this season, including Field Athlete of the Week all three times.  Perhaps even more impressive, all five awards have gone to five different athletes.

McGorty earned his award after running a lifetime-best and CAA-leading 14:10.78 in the 5,000m on Friday night.  That improved his previous best by more than seven seconds, and should put him in strong contention to make the NCAA Eastern Semifinals at the end of May.  McGorty now ranks 15th all-time at W&M in the 5,000m outdoors, and is one of just six men to appear in the top-15 of both the 1,500m and the 5,000m.

Cook, meanwhile, turned in three top-10 performances in the throws.  On Friday, he started his week in sixth place in the discus with a season-best throw of 50.14m (164-6).  Later that day, he was ninth in the shot put at 16.59m (54-5.25), before finishing his week on Saturday with a 10th-place finish in the hammer at 55.78m (183-0), just six inches shy of the personal-best he set last week.  For the season, Cook has beaten the IC4A standard in all nine competitions he's entered, and leads the CAA in both the shot put and the hammer while ranking third in the discus.

McGorty and Cook lead their teammates back home this weekend, hosting the 54th Annual Colonial Relays from Thursday-Saturday, April 4-6.  For the second year in a row, all running events on Friday and Saturday will be broadcast live worldwide on FloTrack.org.  To sign up and watch the meet live, please CLICK HERE.
