The William & Mary women's swimming team is still picking up steam at the West Virginia Invitational, advancing all 23 swimmers out of the prelims on the third and final day Saturday. W&M had 11 women make championship finals and another seven in the consolation finals across four events, and extended its projected lead to over 200 points with 1,381.5, while host West Virginia took over the second spot with 1,160 points and Villanova is third with 1,135.5.
200 Back
The first event of the session was the 200 back, where sophomore
Sonora Baker (Mechanicsville, Va.) advanced to the championship heat in fifth place overall at 2:01.57. Her classmate
Anna Kenna (Chantilly, Va.) is the top seed in the consolation finals at 2:03.09 for ninth overall, and will be joined in that heat by
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) who swam 2:03.43 for 11th. Senior
Julia Bland (Sea Girt, N.J.) made the C finals with a lifetime-best 2:06.96 for 22nd overall, while
Rebecca Rogers (Richmond, Va.), 28th in 2:09.61, and
Tess Ruona (Medford, N.J.), 32nd in 2:14.65, both advanced to the D finals.
100 Free
In the 100 free, sophomore
Missy Cundiff (Leesburg, Va.) swam another lifetime-best to tie for second overall in 50.68 seconds, and improve to rank seventh all-time at W&M. She'll be joined in the championship heat tonight by freshman
Katie Stevenson (Wilton, Conn.), fifth in 51.28, and by
Inez Olszewski (New York, N.Y.), who swam a lifetime-best 51.43 for seventh overall. Senior
Emma Herold (Kohler, Wisc.) advanced to the D finals in 30th overall, stopping the clock in 54.11 seconds.
200 Breast
Junior
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.) earned the top seed in the 200 breast, touching the wall in 2:17.96, and led four of her teammates to spots in the championship finals as well. Freshman
Brooke Lamoureux (Virginia Beach, Va.) was fifth in 2:21.15 and junior
Diana Tramontano (Greenwich, Conn.) was sixth in 2:21.79. Two more rookies,
Annie Tuttle (Alexandria, Va.) in 2:22.20 and
Peyton Proffitt (Richmond, Va.) in 2:22.39, took seventh and eighth, respectively. Sophomore
Ellie Henry (Southern Pines, N.C.) advanced to the consolation finals in 14th place overall, timing 2:25.77.
200 Fly
Freshman
Grace Tramack (Palo Alto, Calif.) continued her strong week in the 200 fly, swimming a lifetime-best 2:03.61 for third overall. Tramack now ranks 12th all-time at W&M in the event. Her classmate
Maura Graff (Henrico, Va.) was seventh overall in 2:05.35 to also make the championship finals, with the sophomore Rogers taking ninth in 2:05.75 to earn the top seed in the consolation finals. She'll be joined in the second heat by seniors
Yuka Kuwahara (Ashburn, Va.), 11th in 2:06.24, and
Margaret Williams (Williamsburg, Va.), 12th in 2:06.84; as well as by sophomore
Gabby Zhang (Ashburn, Va.), who swam 2:06.90 for 13th overall.
Madeline High (Raleigh, N.C.) and senior
Norah Hunt (Stuarts Draft, Va.) both qualified for the C finals, swimming 2:09.54 and 2:10.74 for 19th and 22nd, respectively.
The finals of all four events, as well as the 1,650 free, the 1-meter diving, and the 400 free relay, begins tonight at 6 p.m.
