W&M Men's Cross Country Upsets Three, Takes 12th at Southeast Regional

The William & Mary men's cross country team closed the season on a high note on Friday morning, upsetting three higher-ranked teams at the Southeast Region Championships and finishing 12th overall.  The Tribe improved three spots from its pre-meet ranking, and two spots from its finish last year, scoring 346 points to take 12th out of 35 scoring teams.  No. 21 Virginia won on its home course with 79 points, while No. 22 Virginia Tech was second with 109 points to secure an automatic bid to the NCAA Championships.  Individually, the Hokies' Peter Seufer won the 10K race in 29:20.7.

For W&M, redshirt-junior JP Trojan (Chardon, Ohio) was the top finisher for the fifth time in as many races this season, running 31:15.7 for 52nd overall.  He finished just steps ahead of junior Spencer Tsai (Eugene, Ore.), who was 53rd in 31:16.0, while redshirt-sophomore Patrick Lynch (Vienna, Va.) was 61st overall in 31:31.3.  His classmate Evan Goodell (St. Louis, Mich.) was next for the Green and Gold, running 32:00.4 for 91st overall, and senior Cooper Leslie (Camp Hill, Pa.) finished the scoring in 32:10.6 for 98th overall.  Redshirt-sophomore Jack Mackey (Alexandria, Va.) wrapped up his breakout campaign just half a step behind Leslie, 99th in 32:10.8, and Micah Bremer (Lynchburg, Va.) rounded out the varsity seven in 33:08.5, finishing 143rd overall.

With the cross country season now complete, William & Mary will have a few weeks off before turning its attention to the indoor track.  The Tribe will begin the winter campaign on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis, Md.
