Joseph Brailovsky Advances to the Regional Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis sophomore Joseph Brailovsky advanced to the singles quarterfinals with a pair of wins on Saturday at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships.  
 
Brailovsky, who is seeded No. 7 in championship, posted a pair of wins over seeded players on Saturday. He opened the day by dropping just three total games in a 6-2, 6-1 win over No. 17-32 seed Alvaro Arce of JMU.
 
In the round of 16, Penn State's Christos Antonopoulous, who was the No. 10 seed, picked up the opening set from Brailovsky, 6-4. The Tribe sophomore responded with a tiebreaker win in the second, 7-6, and then earned passage into the next round with a 6-4 win over Antonopoulous in the third set. Brailovsky improved to 5-3 on the year and meets Virginia's Gianni Ross, who is the event's No. 2 seed and ranked No. 103 nationally, in the quarterfinals on Sunday at the Snyder Tennis Center.
 
Junior Sebastian Quiros rallied for a three-set win in a fourth-round upset of a nationally-ranked opponent in the process. Virginia Tech's Henrik Korsgaard, who is seeded No. 3 and ranked No. 104 nationally, took the opening set from Quiros in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3), before the Tribe junior answered with a 6-2 in in the second. Quiros outlasted Korsgaard in a third-set tiebreaker, 7-6 (4), to notch his third nationally-ranked win over the last two years.  In the round of 16, Quiros' run in the championship ended with a 6-3, 6-3 setback to No. 17-32 Luca Maldoner of Old Dominion. 
 
One day after dropping just one game in a pair of resounding victories in the doubles championship, Brailovsky and Volk fell in the round of 16 to the No. 12-seeded Navy team of Andrew Ton and Derrick Thompson, 8-1.

The ITA Atlantic Region Championships continue on Sunday beginning at 10 a.m. with the singles quarterfinals.
