Men's Tennis Singles Trio, Doubles Team Advance at ITA Atlantic Region Championships

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – William & Mary men's tennis advanced a trio of singles players to the fourth round and a doubles team to the round of 16 at the ITA Atlantic Region Championships on Friday.
 
Senior Brenden Volk, junior Sebastian Quiros and sophomore Joseph Brailovsky each tallied their first singles wins of the championship on Friday morning to earn a spot in the fourth round. Brailovsky and Volk won two matches to garner a spot in the doubles round of 16 as well.
 
In singles action, Brailovsky needed three sets to oust Virginia's Christian Alshton, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3, to even his singles ledger at 3-3. The No. 7 seed in the event, he faces No. 17-32 seed Alvaro Arce of JMU in the round of 32 on Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
 
Volk, like his teammate, used three sets to pick up his third-round victory. A No. 17-32 seed, Volk topped JMU's Gonzalo Adis, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, in recording his third singles win of the fall season. He will take on No. 2 seed Gianni Ross of Virginia, who is also ranked No. 103 nationally, in the fourth round on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Snyder  Tennis Center.
 
Quiros dropped just four games in a convincing 6-3, 6-1 win over Virginia's Jefferson Dockter. The Tribe junior, who is a No. 17-32 seed, notched his third win of the fall and will square off with the No. 3 seed Henrik Korsgaard of Virginia Tech at 9 a.m. at the Dell Courts. Korsgaard is ranked No. 104 nationally.
 
In doubles action, Brailovsky and Volk led the way with a pair of wins to move into the round of 16. The Tribe tandem dropped just one total game in its victories. They opened up with an 8-0 blanking of Mount St. Mary's Evan Hine and Jean Armstrong in the first round before topping Hampton's Fayzullokhon Mavlyudov and Cliff Dwyer, 8-1. The No. 7-seeded Tribe duo squares off with the No. 12-seeded Navy team of Andrew Ton and Derrick Thompson in the round of 16 on Saturday around 1 p.m. at the Snyder Tennis Center.
 
Each of the Tribe's other three doubles pairs picked up first-round victories before falling in round two. Junior Finbar Talcott and freshman George Davis picked up the most impressive opening-round victory as they upended the No. 3-seeded Virginia team of Gianni Ross and William Woodall, 8-5. Unfortunately, the tandem dropped an 8-5 decision to the Delaware pair of James Wilkinson and Liam Hedlund. Talcott and Davis are 3-2 on the year.
 
Quiros and sophomore Oren Vasser tallied an 8-3 win over Saint Joseph's Francesco Mowrey and John Massart, while junior Chen Ruo and sophomore Daniel Pellerito dropped William Barry and John Yurconic of Lafayette, 8-6. Both teams fell to seeded teams in the second round. Quiros and Vasser fell to the No. 13-seeded Navy team of Greg Durham and Jack Dabeck, 8-4, and Ruo and Pellerito suffered an 8-5 setback to the No. 4-seeded Virginia Tech team of Henrik Korsgaard and Brandon Perez. Ouiros and Vasser are 3-2 on the year, while Ruo and Pellerito notched their first win of the campaign.
 
Saturday's schedule kicks off with singles action beginning at 9 a.m. The slate includes two rounds of singles, the fourth round and round of 16, with the doubles Round of 16 to follow beginning at 1 p.m.
