WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer junior
Sam Golan was named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week on Monday.
Golan was also an honorable mention selection to Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week. He was selected as the CAA Defensive Player of the Week on Monday as well.
It marked the second time in the last three weeks that the Green and Gold had a player named to the national team of the week. Freshman
Kieran Baskett was named to the team of Sept. 16 after notching an 11-save performance in W&M's 1-1 draw with UNCW. He also tallied seven saves in a 1-1 tie with NC State during the week.
From his center back position, Golan led the Tribe to back-to-back shutouts of Loyola Maryland and Charleston. It marked the first back-to-back clean sheets for W&M in nearly two years.
In the CAA road victory over the Cougars, Golan tallied his first career game with a goal and an assist. He assisted on the game-winner to freshman
Nathan Messer in the 54th minute and added the capper just seven minutes later, heading in a free-kick from freshman
Alfredo Bozalongo. An All-CAA Third Team selection last season, Golan has played all 760 minutes for the Tribe this season.
Golan and the Tribe return to the Palmetto State for a Saturday, Oct. 5, match-up at Coastal Carolina. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m., and the match will be streamed on the Chanticleer Sports Network.
