FAIRFAX, Va. – Redshirt junior
Sarah Segan scored a pair of goals and sophomore
Courtney Miles added the third as the William & Mary women's soccer team topped George Mason 3-1 in its final preseason match on Saturday evening in Fairfax, Va.
W&M wasted little time getting on the scoreboard and scored on its first chance of the game. From just outside of the penalty area, Segan rocketed her shot into the upper left corner of the net to give the Tribe a 1-0 cushion.
However just 70 seconds later, Mason responded with the equalizer. Gabriela Rivera found the foot of Emily Littell just six-feet out. Littell was able to redirect the feed into the lower right corner of the goal to even the score.
Segan scored the would-be game-winner in the 35th minute. Freshman
Renee Kohler found the redshirt junior just 20-feet out from goal. Segan uncorked her chance off of the post, but the ricochet took a Tribe bounce and rolled into the left side of the net to make it 2-1.
W&M added the exclamation point in the 58th minute. Once again Kohler started the play by sending a cross into the box that was able to find Miles. Miles controlled the ball and fired her shot into the middle of the net for the final goal of the night.

Notes
If the stats counted, redshirt junior
Sarah Segan would have recorded her fourth career multi-goal game … It would have been Segan's 19th and 20th career goal, and sixth game-winning tally … In two preseason games, the redshirt junior scored three goals for six points … The goal would have been sophomore
Courtney Miles first career goal … The pair of assists would have been the first career points in freshman
Renee Kohler's career … Both junior
Katelyn Briguglio and senior
Sara Vigen saw action in goal for the Tribe in the match … Briguglio made three saves in the contest and earned the win.
Quotable
"I thought we showed great patience in the first 20 minutes of the match when they were all over us.
Sarah Segan and
Courtney Miles scored great goals, and
Renee Kohler had a pair of nice assists coming off of counter attacks. On the defensive side, we were composed and were anchored and organized by
Hannah Keith."
– Head coach Julie Shackford on the game
"We are pleased with the results in our two scrimmages, but we know come tomorrow we are still 0-0. The coaching staff was able to see a lot of players play different positions and we were able to see different lineup combinations. We are excited to get back to work and are excited to take on a good Maryland team on Thursday." –
