CAA Champion Men’s Soccer Welcomes Incoming Group of Seven for 2018

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – William & Mary men's soccer head coach Chris Norris announced the addition of seven student-athletes to the Tribe for the 2018 season. Joining the defending Colonial Athletic Association champions are goalkeeper Connor Andrews (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park), back/midfielder James Bradley (McLean, Va./McLean), midfielder Campbell Brickhouse (Charlottesville, Va./Charlottesville), midfielder John Eberle (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park), midfielder John Andrew Eskay (Urbana, Md./Urbana), midfielder Zachary Hosseinian (Leesburg, Va./Paul VI) and midfielder Devin McCarthy (Crofton, Md./Severn School).

"We are very thrilled to announce the addition of these seven student-athletes," Norris said.  "The experience of winning the 2017 CAA championship was an excellent reward for our commitment to growth; however, rather than being an endpoint, it serves as a fond reminder that our focus must remain on getting better.  The seven individuals joining us have exhibited a similar commitment to personal growth, on the field and in the classroom.  I am certain their continued pursuit of excellence will help our program improve and enhance our campus community."

Here is a look at each of the Tribe's incoming group:

Norris on Andrews:
"Connor comes to us from the Prince William Courage club.  Connor is the prototypical goalkeeper.  He possesses the size, length and athleticism to be a very successful college goalkeeper.  In addition, Connor has soft hands and very good feet.  Most importantly, throughout the recruiting process, Connor impressed us with his soccer IQ and composed demeanor.  He has a calming presence and a consistency that we greatly value.  We expect Connor to join a talented corps of returning goalkeepers in competing for the starting role vacated by senior Phil Breno."

James Bradley

James Bradley

Son of Mitch and Katie Bradley … Father, Mitch, competed for four years in gymnastics at the Naval Academy … Brother, Frank, currently competing in gymnastics for Navy … Intends to major in finance.

Norris on Bradley:
"James joins us from the Arlington Soccer Association.  Although versatile, James is likely to feature as a left back for the Tribe. He possesses all the tools to thrive as a left back in our system.  James is very clean technically, possesses a high soccer IQ and consistently makes good decisions.  He is capable of starting attacks with his passing or joining attacks, either as an overlapping or inverted fullback.  In addition, he is a conscientious, patient defender who is good one-versus-one and as a covering player.  James joins a deep, experienced group of outside backs, but we expect him to immediately compete."

Norris on Brickhouse:
"Campbell is a product of the Soccer Organization Charlottesville Area.  He is a very clever attacking midfielder.  What we love most about Campbell is that he is always playing the game two or three moves ahead.  He does not take mental breaks.  Instead, he constantly scans the field and devises a plan for his next action.  Campbell stays connected to the center forward.  He plays at a high tempo.  He is a very deceptive passer and his off-the-ball running frequently puts him in goal-scoring positions. Campbell should have the opportunity to study under Antonio Bustamante for a season, but, at a minimum, he will immediately improve our collective speed of play and tactical understanding."

John Eberle

John Eberle

Personal
Son of Nathan and Joann Eberle … Intends to Major in business management.

Norris on Eberle:
"Like James Bradley, John hails from the Arlington Soccer Association.  We envision John as a box-to-box midfielder and think he may be one of the most complete players we have had in recent years.  John has many tools at his disposal.  He has a great build and fluid way of moving that makes him very deceptive.  He is technically diverse, capable of sitting deeper and spraying passes around the field or beating players on the dribble in the attacking third.  John also plays with swagger.  He has the confidence and creativity to try things, but balances that with an understanding of when to play simply.  John can win tackles and aerial challenges in midfield, but can also score a game-winner.  With Riley Spain's graduation, we do have to reconfigure our midfield.  I expect John to announce himself as an immediate option."

John Andrew Eskay

His father, Bo, and both brothers, William (2014-17) and Jackson (2012-15), played for the Tribe soccer program … Grandfather, Bob, played basketball at W&M ... Older sister, Tori, was three-time all-conference player at St. Mary's College of Maryland.

Norris on Eskay:
"John Andrew joins his father and two brothers as members of Tribe Men's Soccer.  A product of FC Frederick, John Andrew is a dynamic attacking player.  We anticipate him featuring as winger, where he can maximize his pace, quickness and one-versus-one ability.  Naturally left-footed, John Andrew is equally capable of playing on the left and beating defenders to the end-line to cross or playing on the right and cutting inside to shoot or combine.  Despite the graduation of his brother, William, and also Christian Jones, John Andrew will be competing with a deep group of wingers.  However, he possesses the physical and technical ability to make an immediate impact if he can adjust to the sophistication and organization of college defending."

Personal
Son of Alex and Tracey Hosseinian … Intends to major in psychological sciences with a double minor in history and philosophy.

Norris on Hosseinian:
"Zach currently captains the 1999 team at Loudoun Soccer Club.  We project Zach as a defensive midfielder or right back.  He is what I refer to as a foundational player.  Zach is not flashy, yet is immensely valuable to his team. He reads the game well and embraces his role as a defensive disruptor and attacking initiator.  Zach is a serial winner.  He consistently sets the stage for the creators to conjure match-winning moments.  Zach will face strong competition in his preferred roles, but he tends to rise to meet challenges and therefore, could factor in right away."

Personal
Son of Michael and Christina McCarthy … Father, Michael, played soccer at Keene State College, 1983-87… Majoring in marketing … Will take part in RTOC at W&M.

Norris on McCarthy:
"Devin currently plays for the reigning national champion Baltimore Celtic 2000 team.  Devin is a versatile attacking player.  I can see him featuring in any of the front four positions.  He plays with tremendous desire and determination. Throughout his career, Devin has had a knack for scoring goals and has done so in a variety of ways.  He is just as likely to score with a great strike from distance as he is to net a scrappy goal after a scramble in the penalty area.  Devin is another guy who has won at every level.  He tends to persevere, doing whatever is necessary, within the rules, for his team to succeed.  This quality will likely enable him to contend for minutes in the fall, despite stiff competition in attacking roles."
