The William & Mary women's basketball team opens the regular season as it welcomes in-state rival VCU to Kaplan Arena on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Tip time for the Tribe and the Rams is set for 7 p.m.

• The William & Mary women's basketball team opens its sixth season under head coach
Ed Swanson as it starts 2018-19 with a two-game homestand. The Tribe's season lid-lifter is against former CAA rival VCU. Tipoff between the Tribe and Rams is set for 7 p.m.
• Under Swanson the Tribe is 3-2 in both its season and home openers. However, the Tribe has won three of its last four home and season openers, including wins both openers a season ago.
• The William & Mary women's basketball team was selected to finish sixth in the preseason poll by a vote of league head coaches. James Madison was selected to win the league, while Drexel was picked second. Two-time defending champion Elon and Delaware were picked in a tie for third.
• Senior
Bianca Boggs was selected to the Preseason All-CAA First-Team after a breakout junior season. Boggs became the first Tribe player in a decade to receive First-Team All-CAA honors as she claimed the award last season. In addition to her first-team selection, Boggs earned a spot on the All-Defensive Team. The Waldorf, Md. native enjoyed a breakout junior season for the Tribe as she scored 456 points, while her 15.2 points ranked second in the CAA. Boggs added 137 rebounds (4.6 per game), 88 assists (2.9 per game), 24 blocks (0.8 per game), and 65 steals (2.2 per game). She was named the CAA Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 29.
• Sophomore
Nyla Pollard returns to the Tribe after being named to the CAA All-Rookie Team as a freshman. Pollard scored 4.1 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest last year. She was named CAA Rookie of the Week twice and scored a career-high 14 points against USC Upstate.
• Coach Swanson and his staff will have four new players to work into the rotation this season. First is redshirt sophomore
Harper Birdsong, who is eligible for the first time in her Tribe career after sitting out last year after transferring from George Washington. Birdsong appeared in nine games for the Colonials. The Tribe also has three –
Eva Hodgson,
Emma Krause, and
Caroline Stover – that will also look to work into the rotation.
• There are two new members on the Tribe's coaching staff this season as well as
Tierra Rudd joins the Tribe as an assistant coach, while
Michelle Kurowski is the new director of basketball operations. Rudd joins the Tribe staff after three seasons at Western Carolina, while Kurowski starts her coaching career after being an elementary school teacher for the past four years.
• Following her collegiate career,
Abby Rendle inked a professional career with Royal Castors Braine that compete in Belgium's Division I Women's League and in the Euroleague. The Reston, Va. native becomes the fifth Tribe women's basketball player to continue their playing careers since Swanson's arrival prior to the 2013-14 basketball season. She joins Kaitlyn Mathieu '14, Jazmen Boone '15, Mackenzie Morrison '15, and Alexandra Masaquel '17 to move onto to pro basketball.
• Head coach
Ed Swanson announced the 2018-19 season schedule this summer. The slate is highlighted by a pair of 2018 NCAA Tournament teams, five teams that played in postseason tournaments, five in-state rivals, and 14 home games inside of Kaplan Arena.
• Once again, all 14 Tribe women's basketball home games will be broadcasted for free and in HD on TribeAthletics.TV.
