The William & Mary women's swimming team closed out a 2-1 finish at the CAA Pod Meet in Delaware on Sunday, piling up the points to extend its lead over UNCW (242-105) and Delaware (207.5-138.5) and closing the gap on league-leaders James Madison before falling, 204-143. The Tribe improves to 3-5 on the season and 2-2 in the Colonial Athletic Association with the results.
W&M won three of the six events over James Madison, as well as four of six against Delaware and a perfect 6-for-6 over UNCW in the session, beginning with the 500 free where sophomore
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.) charged down the final 100 yards to register a come-from-behind victory in 5:02.16. Next up was the 200 back, where
Tara Tiernan (West Hartford, Conn.) swam 2:04.76 to beat both Delaware and UNCW.
In the 100 free, senior
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.) toughed out a 52.68 to beat both the Blue Hens and the Seahawks, and in the 200 breast, freshman
Ellie Henry (Southern Pines, N.C.) stopped the clock in 2:23.49 for wins over both James Madison and UNCW. Senior
Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.) claimed wins over both of those opponents as well in the 200 fly, swimming 2:05.20, and in the final race of the day, the 400 free relay, the quartet of Bull (53.24 lead-off),
Inez Olszewski (New York, N.Y.), 52.9 split, Tiernan (52.5), and Sell (52.1 anchor) brought the Tribe home in 3:30.89 for wins over Delaware and UNCW.
William & Mary has wrapped up its dual meets for the fall, and now have the next week off to prepare for Northwestern's TYR Invitational, Friday-Sunday, Nov. 16-18 in Evanston, Ill.
