The William & Mary men's cross country team scored a perfect 15 points on Saturday to win the CNU Invitational, placing seven runners in the top-10 of the five-team event. Behind the Tribe, host Christopher Newport placed second with 51 points, and Hampton was third with 71 points.
Redshirt-junior
Evan Woods (Bethesda, Md.) blitzed the course to win the race by over 20 seconds, finishing the 8K race in 26:28 for his first career cross country win. His teammate
Chris Short (Toano, Va.) was second overall in 26:52, and redshirt-freshman
John Cacciatore (Indialantic, Fla.) was fifth overall in 27:14. Redshirt-freshman
Johnny Rogers (Vienna, Va.) was right behind him in 27:37 for sixth place, and another rookie,
Evan Goodell (St. Louis, Mich.), was seventh in 27:50 to finish the scoring. Redshirt-sophomore
Raul Chavez-Gutierrez (Marshall, Va.) was ninth overall in 28:17, and junior
Jack Ehlenberger (Charlottesville, Va.) completed the varsity seven and the top-10 with his 10th-place time of 28:32.
William & Mary is back in action next weekend, heading to the Pre-National Invitational in Madison, Wisc. The race will begin at 11:30 a.m. Central, 12:30 p.m. Eastern on Saturday, Oct. 13.
