WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - The William & Mary baseball team returns to Plumeri Park for a critical three-game CAA series against the College of Charleston this weekend. The series starts on Friday, May 5 at 6 p.m., resumes on Saturday, May 6 at 4 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, May 7 at 1 p.m.
W&M athletics will provide enhanced coverage of Tribe Baseball this weekend on its Internet-based broadcasting platform,
TribeAthletics.TV, found on TribeAthletics.com. The clash between two of the Colonial Athletic Association's top teams will feature multiple camera angles and replay, streaming online for FREE in HD via Stretch Internet.
ON TAP
William & Mary will begin its six-game homestead with a key CAA series against the College of Charleston this weekend. The series opens on Friday, May 5 at 6 p.m., resumes on Saturday, May 6 at 4 p.m. and concludes on Sunday, May 7 at 1 p.m. The Tribe have won its last three conference series to tie for third place with UNCW at 9-6.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS
The College of Charleston is seeking its third straight CAA series win after taking two-of-three from Elon last weekend. Charleston is 22-22, 12-6 in league play and ranks second in the CAA standings. The Cougars are hitting .284 as a team. Logan McRae, a .319 batter (52-for-163), leads the team in home runs (13) and RBI (51). Tommy Richter boasts a team-best .371 batting average (53-for-143), adding six doubles, two triples and 16 RBI. On the mound, Charleston sports a 5.35 team ERA. Evan Sisk paces the squad behind 57.1 innings pitched, 37 strikeouts and a 2.67 ERA. Carter Love has also fanned a team-best 53 batters. Matt Heath is in his second season at Charleston. He has compiled a 53-48-1 record during his tenure.
SERIES HISTORY
W&M and CofC will meet for the 14
th-16
th time in series history this weekend at Plumeri Park. The Cougars lead the all-time series with a 10-3 mark. Nonetheless, the Tribe rolled to a 10-3 victory to eliminate the Cougars from the 2016 CAA tournament in their previous meeting. During the last matchup,
Ryder Miconi notched a 3-for-4 effort with a double and a RBI, while
Charles Ameer drove in four runs and recorded a double.
ON DECK
The Tribe concludes the home portion of its schedule with a three-game set against Northeastern. The series starts on May 11 at 6 pm and concludes with a doubleheader on May 12 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. W&M will celebrate senior day during the doubleheader by recognizing its graduating players between game one and two.
MILITARY APPRECIATION
The Tribe will hold Military Appreciation Day during the series finale on Sunday, May 7 at 1 p.m. Active/retired military veterans can purchase tickets for $3.00.
LARGE AND IN CHARGE
Junior
Cullen Large is six hits away from ranking top 15 in the program's all-time most hits list at 211. He recently eclipsed 200 career hits against in-state rival James Madison on April 22. The Chesterfield, Va., native is also just four short of reaching 50 career doubles. Large is currently tied for 16
th in the school's all-time most doubles list. For the season, the Preseason All-American is batting .348 (62-for-178) with 14 doubles, two triples, four home runs and 33 RBI.
HALL PASS
Junior
Ryan Hall is three sacrifice flies away from setting a new single season program record. Hall's seven sac flies tie for seventh in the nation. He also ranks second in the Colonial Athletic Association in doubles (16) and runs scored (43) and second on the team in RBI (36).
POWERED BY POWERS
Senior
Daniel Powers went eight innings for the second time this season in the series finale at Towson on April 30. He evened his record to 4-4 after limiting the Tigers to one run on seven hits. The last time Powers tossed eight innings was against Elon on April 7. He held the Phoenix to two runs on five hits and fanned seven batters to take the win. Sophomore
Bodie Sheehan is the only other pitcher to log eight innings in a game.
THERE'S NO PLACE LIKE HOME
W&M wraps up its home schedule with six straight games at Plumeri Park. The homestead is pivotal stretch as the Tribe will host the top two teams in the CAA standings in the College of Charleston (12-6 CAA) and Northeastern (11-4 CAA). The Tribe are 15-5 at home, including a three-game sweep of conference foe James Madison during the previous weekend series at Plumeri.
GOING, GOING, GONE
The Green and Gold tallied four home runs during its weekend series at conference rival
Towson (April 28-30). W&M registered a season-best three dingers in the series opener.
Ryder Miconi launched a pair of two-run bombs to homer twice in a game for the first time in his career, while
Hunter Smith chipped in the third deep ball behind a solo shot. Smith went on to add another solo blast during the series finale. Miconi and
Charles Ameer are tied for a team-best seven homers this season. The Tribe are 7-3 when notching at least two home runs in a game
WEEKLY AWARDS
The Tribe added its sixth conference weekly award of 2017 after
Ryder Miconi was named Player of the Week for the week of April 24. Miconi batted .409 (9-for-22) with three doubles, six runs scored and nine RBI's in William & Mary's 4-1 week.
Brandon Raquet (Feb. 21, April 10) and
Patrick Ryan (Feb. 28) combined for three Rookie of the Week awards, while
Bodie Sheehan (March 7) and
Daniel Powers (March 27) contributed Pitcher of the Week accolades.
BEST IN THE LEAGUE
Rookie
Brandon Raquet tops the Colonial Athletic Association with a .468 on base percentage. Raquet finished the Towson series 5-for-11 and drew five walks. Junior
Charlie Fletcher also ranks first in the conference behind 25 appearances on the mound. The reliever has pitched 23.2 innings with 15 strikeouts and a 3.80 ERA.
GOING STREAKING
Sophomore
Hunter Smith is riding his longest hitting streak of the season at seven games. In his previous outing, Smith finished 3-for-5 and was a triple away from hitting for the cycle.
Cullen Large (18) and
Charles Ameer (11) both tallied double-digit hitting streaks this season. Large pushed his current on-base streak to 13 games at Towson last weekend. Large also holds the longest on-base streak of the season at 18.

WALK THIS WAY
The Green and Gold registered back-to-back walk-off RBI singles to complete a CAA sweep of James Madison last weekend (April 21-23). In the second game, senior
Ryder Miconi recorded the first walk-off single to lift the Tribe to an 8-7 victory in 10 innings. Freshman
Patrick Ryan provided more late game heroics as he carried W&M to a 7-6 win behind another walk-off single in the series finale.
BRINGING OUT THE BROOMS
William & Mary recorded its third 3-0 weekend of 2017 following a series sweep of James Madison on April 21-23. The JMU series also represented the Tribe's first CAA sweep. W&M brought out the brooms for the first time this season during its home opening series against Lafayette (Feb. 24-26). The Tribe went on to notch its second straight undefeated weekend at the Irish Classic on March 3-5, defeating non-conference foes Monmouth (W, 6-5), Dayton (W, 7-0) and Rhode Island (W, 2-1).
