Women's Tennis Welcomes ODU on Senior Day

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary women's tennis team celebrates Senior Day on Saturday, April 8, when it welcomes Hampton Road counterpart Old Dominion to the Millie West Tennis Facility. The Green and Gold will honor its lone senior, Marie Faure, between doubles and singles competition. The match will also be a doubleheader with the Tribe men's program, which hosts Middle Tennessee, as both matches will run concurrently at 2 p.m.  

Scouting the Tribe
For the seventh-straight week, the Tribe was ranked in the national top 50, coming in No. 49 for the second week in a row. The Green and Gold split its home matches last week and is 9-10 on the year. W&M improved to 3-1 in CAA play with a dominating 6-1 win over Delaware, before suffering a 6-1 setback to current No. 39 Rice. In the win over Delaware, the Tribe claimed the doubles point with tiebreaker wins at No. 2 and No. 3, before senior Marie Faure (No. 2), freshmen Natalia Perry (No. 3) and Rosie Cheng (No. 4), sophomore Lauren Goodman (No. 5) and junior Olivia Thaler (No. 6) posted singles wins. Against Rice, Cheng tallied the lone Tribe point with a victory at No. 4 singles. She increased her winning streak to nine matches and is a team-best 11-3 in dual-match play to go along with a 15-8 overall mark. Juniors Ekaterina Stepanova and Olivia Thaler garnered CAA Doubles Team of the Week honors for the second time in as many weeks. The duo ran its win streak to five matches and also knocked off a nationally-ranked foe in taking down the No. 79-ranked Rice pair at the second spot. Stepanova and Thaler are 7-3 in doubles play at No. 2. Faure and Perry continue to lead W&M with 18 singles wins apiece. The Tribe, which garnered a season-high ITA National Ranking of No. 37 on March 7, owns nationally-ranked wins over current No. 43 Dartmouth and No. 44 Maryland. Of the Tribe's 10 losses, eight have come to teams in the national top 40 - No. 13 South Carolina, No. 15 Duke, No. 23 Kansas, No. 27 N.C. State, No. 28 Wake Forest, No. 29 Notre Dame, No. 35 Tulsa and No. 39 Rice.
 
Senior Spotlight - Marie Faure
Transferred to W&M after competing her first two seasons at Virginia … Over her two years with the Tribe, owns a 34-21 singles record and a 26-18 doubles mark … Overall has 75 career singles wins and 51 career doubles victories … During the fall, won six-straight matches on the way to claiming the ITA Atlantic Region Singles Championship and competed in the ITA National Indoor Championship … Leads W&M this season with 18 singles wins … Ranked as high as No. 117 nationally in singles during the fall season and was No. 3 in the ITA Atlantic Region… Named First Team All-CAA in both singles and doubles in 2016 … A First Team VaSID All-State honoree in singles and doubles last season … Earned CAA Singles Player of the Week honors on three occasions over the last two years … Competed with Lauren Goodman and advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA All-American Championship during the fall … The duo leads W&M with 11 victories this season, including an 8-5 mark at the No. 1 position … Ranked as high as No. 91 nationally in singles in 2016 and finished the year ranked No. 9 in the ITA Atlantic Region …  Ranked No. 4 in the ITA Atlantic Region for doubles and as high as No. 65 nationally in 2016.
 
Scouting Old Dominion
Old Dominion enters the match with the Tribe at 10-7 on the year, having dropped three of its last four contests. Last week, the Monarchs downed CAA foe Delaware, 4-1, before falling to VCU, 4-2, to wrap up a five-match homestand. Holly Hutchinson and Borislava Botusharova both appeared in the ITA National Singles Rankings this week at No. 90 and No. 91, respectively. The pair has split time between the No. 1 and No. 2 singles positions in dual-match play. Botusharova is 21-8 overall and 10-3 in dual-match play, while Hutchinson is 16-8 on the year, including a 9-4 ledger in duals. Ingrid Vojcinakova is 15-9 in singles competition, playing as high as No. 2 in the lineup. In doubles, Hutchinson and Vojcinakova have teamed recently at the No. 1 spot, racking up a 4-4 mark.
 
Series History: W&M vs. Old Dominion
W&M leads the all-time series with the Monarchs at 49-5, including a 23-1 mark in Williamsburg. The Tribe won 12 straight in the series from 2002-12 and has won three of the last five meetings. Last season, the Green and Gold picked up a 4-3 win over the Monarchs in Norfolk. W&M rallied with wins in four of the six singles matches, including victories from Marie Faure (No. 2), Lauren Goodman (No. 3) and Maria Groener (No. 6), to upend the Monarchs. The 2017 meeting marks the 29th straight season that the teams have met.
