Baseball Opens Three-Game Series at East Tennessee State Today

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The William & Mary baseball team continues its six-game road swing with the final non-conference series of the season at East Tennessee State, starting today at 6:30 p.m. The series picks up again on Friday with another 6:30 p.m. first pitch and concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m.

W&M continues five road games in five days with its final non-conference series of the season at East Tennessee State. The set begins Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., picks back up on Friday at 6:30 p.m. and concludes on Saturday at 1 p.m. The Green and Gold are looking to snap a three-game skid.
 
SCOUTING THE BUCCANEERS
East Tennessee State recently recovered from SoCon series sweep against Western Carolina by defeating Tennessee, 10-2, on April 11, which improved its overall mark to 15-15. The Bucs are hitting a solid .311 as a team. Christian Bailey is the team's top batter with a .394 batting average (50-for-127), 11 doubles, two triples and 28 RBI. On the mound, ESTU owns a 4.88 team ERA. Ryan Simpler heads the pitching staff with 52.2 innings, 57 strikeouts and a 2.91 ERA. Simpler has a 4-3 record after starting eight games. Tony Skole is in his 18th season 18th season as head coach at ESTU. He has a 451-524 mark in his tenure at ESTU.
 
SERIES HISTORY
W&M and ETSU will meet for just the third-fifth in all-time series history. The all-time series record is deadlocked at 1-1. The last timeout between the two programs was back in 2003. The Green and Gold won the previous meeting, 7-5, in Johnson City, Tenn.
 
ON DECK
The Tribe conclude its six-game road trip at Richmond on Tuesday, April 18th, before returning to Plumeri Park for its second meeting of the season against Maryland on Wednesday, April 19th. First pitch for the game at Richmond is scheduled for 3 p.m., and first pitch against Maryland is set for 6 p.m.
 
CAA WEEKLY AWARDS
W&M added its fifth weekly award of the season as freshman Brandon Raquet collected his second CAA Rookie of the Week honor for the week of April 10. Raquet batted .692 (9-for-13) with two doubles, a triple, five runs scored and three RBI's in William & Mary's 3-1 week. The Tribe's pitching staff produced two Pitcher of the Week honorees in senior Daniel Powers and sophomore Bodie Sheehan. Powers earned his weekly accolade for the week of March 27 after picking up a win and his first career save. Sheehan garnered his for the week of March 6 by posting a career-best 11 strikeouts and contributing to a shutout win against Dayton (March 4). Freshman Patrick Ryan also received Rookie of the Week accolades on the week of Feb. 27, batting .444 (4-for-9) with four runs and four RBIs to help the Tribe sweep its home opening series against Lafafyette (Feb. 24-26).
 
BEST IN THE LEAGUE
Redshirt sophomore Nick Raquet currently owns the top ERA in the Colonial Athletic Association at 1.98. In 41 innings of work, Raquet has tallied 48 strikeouts and allowed 13 runs, nine of which were earned, on 32 hits. The Boalsburg, Pa., native owns a 1-1 record. He did not factor into the decision during his start against Elon on April 9, tossing seven innings with eight K's and one run on eight hits.
 
POWERED BY POWERS
Powers went a season-high eight innings during an 8-2 conference win over Elon on April 7. He fanned seven batters and held the Phoenix the two runs, both earned, on five hits. The win marked his third of the season.
 
GOING STREAKING
Senior Charles Ameer pushed his hitting streak to double digits at 10 games after back-to-back contest against in-state rivals Old Dominion (April 11) and Norfolk State (April 12). Ameer's streak is the second-best on the team, behind junior Cullen Large's 16-game torrid. Senior Ryder Miconi continues his on-base streak, now at 13 games. His stretch is also ranked second on the team behind Large, who posted an 18-game on-base streak. Miconi also recently went four straight games (April 7-11) with multiple hits to pace W&M with 13 total.
