Ryan Newman advanced to the semifinals of the 128th Pacific Coast Doubles Championship consolation bracket on Saturday. The Green and Gold tandem posted a pair of wins over collegiate counterparts to earn a spot in Sunday's consolation semifinals.
After picking up two wins in the consolation bracket on Friday, Newman and Talcott made quick work of the Boise State duo of Harvey Shackleton and Ryland McDermott, 6-1, 6-3, in the round of 16 to start Saturday. The Tribe combo needed three sets, but outlasted UC Davis' David Goulak and Eli Whittle, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, in the quarterfinals. Newman and Talcott ran their record to 4-1 at the event.
Newman and Talcott face off with Adam Levie and Toki Sherbakov at 9 a.m. PT on Sunday in the consolation semifinals. The other semi pits UC Irvine's Mason Hansen and Tyler Pham against Stjepan Sisko and Thawin Suksthaporn of Toledo. The consolation championship is set for noon PT.
