The William & Mary swimming teams heads back on the road this weekend, traveling down to Wilmington, N.C., for the CAA Pod Meet. The two-day meet, Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 4-5, includes W&M, host UNCW, James Madison (women only), and Delaware, with action coming in two sessions Saturday, 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and finishing with one session at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning. The Saturday afternoon session can be watched live through TribeAthletics.com.
The Meet
The teams will compete in a 19-event schedule, swimming or diving every championship event except the 800 free relay. Each of the three sessions breaks down like this:
10 AM Saturday - 200 free relay, 200 IM, 50 free, 1650 free, 400 medley relay, 1-Meter diving, 3-Meter diving
4 PM Saturday - 200 medley relay, 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back
10 AM Sunday - 500 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly, 400 free relay
Scouting the Tribe Men
W&M is 3-1 (1-0 CAA) after opening conference play with a 177-85 win over Towson last week. Freshman
Devin McNulty (Herndon, Va.) was named the CAA Swimmer of the Week after sweeping the breaststroke events against the Tigers, and also swimming on W&M's winning 200 medley relay. Other top swimmers for W&M include sophomore
Colin Wright (Williamsburg, Va.), who leads the CAA in both the 50 and 100 free, as well as conference leader
Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) who has the league's best time in the 400 IM while also ranking top four in three other events.
Scouting the Tribe Women
W&M's women's team improved to 4-1 on the year and 1-0 in conference play last weekend, overtaking Towson on the final relay to win 135-127. Junior
Katie Sell (Fredericksburg, Va.) played a big part in the win, swimming on both winning relays (including anchor on the 400 free relay) while winning the 100 free and finishing second in the 50 free. For her efforts, Sell was named the CAA Swimmer of the Week. The Tribe also features junior
Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.), who ranks second in the league in both the 1000 free and 400 IM, and freshman
Megan Bull (Hillsborough, N.J.), who ranks top-four in three different events.
Scouting the Seahawks
UNCW is 2-2 on the men's side and 3-2 for the women so far this season, with both teams boasting wins over Old Dominion and Catawba College, while losing to Tennessee and East Carolina. The UNCW women also defeated UNC Asheville this year. Top contenders for the Seahawks include John Cosgrove, who has the best 200 free time of any swimmer in this weekend's meet, as well as sprint phenom Mary Evan Arsenault, who leads the CAA women's ranks in both the 50 and the 100 free so far this season.
Scouting the Blue Hens
Delaware enters the weekend with identical 1-2 records on both sides, recording wins over Washington College while losing to Georgetown and George Mason. The Blue Hens are led by Patrick Savidge, who has the best seed times this weekend among all schools in the 500 free, 1000 free, and the 200 IM. On the women's side, UD's top contender is Aubrey Duvall in the 200 IM.
Scouting the Dukes
James Madison, CAA runners-up the past two years, is 2-2 (1-0) on the year with wins over Northeastern and Michigan State and losses to Pittsburgh and Miami. The Dukes have a number of swimmers leading the CAA lists this season, including Katherine Parker who is the top competitor in both the 200 breast and the 200 IM. A JMU swimmer also leads the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles, as well as both the 100 and 200 back.
The Series
- W&M and UNCW have met 33 times since 1981 in men's swimming, with the Seahawks holding a commanding 27-6 lead in the series. Half of the Tribe's wins have come in recent years, however, as W&M has won each of the last three meets including by 151 points in 2015.
- The Tribe leads the all-time series with Delaware 11-4, including the last six meets since 2012. All four of the Blue Hens' wins came in four straight years from 2008-11.
- The Tribe women and JMU have met 51 times before this week in a series dating back to 1965, with W&M holding a slim 26-24-1 lead. The Dukes lead in CAA play, 18-11-1 however. After W&M won seven in a row from 2002 to 2009, JMU has won the last seven in a row since 2010.
- W&M is 13-2 all-time against the Delaware women, including a 12-2 mark in the CAA. The Blue Hens most recently won in 2015, a narrow 16-point victory in their home pool.
- The Tribe and the Seahawks have been swimming each other since 1985, with UNCW leading the series 16-13. UNCW won 15 of 16 meets between 1991 and 2007, while the Tribe has won four in a row and six of the last seven including a 127-point win most recently in 2015.

Christina Jackson (77-39-1, .662) from 1969-82 ... Sell and Oceguera are tied for the women's team lead with seven wins each ... In points, however, Sell has taken advantage of her spot on the Tribe relays to pile up a team-best 100.75 points ... On the men's side, Balbo leads the Tribe in wins with eight, while Wright leads the team in points with 87.25 ... W&M's men's team is currently working on a pair of seven-meet winning streaks ... The win over Towson was the Tribe's seventh victory at home, dating back to 2015 ... That's the third-longest home winning streak since 1965, behind only a 13-meet streak from 1969 to 1971 and a 12-meet stretch from 1997 to 1999 ... W&M's men's team also have won seven CAA meets in a row, dating back to November of 2014 ... The longest conference winning streak in school history was an incredible 15 meets in a row, stretching from 1968 to 1975 ... The women's win over Towson is also part of an impressive winning streak of six straight at home, dating back to October of 2015 ... That's the third longest home winning streak in the history of the women's team, behind a 48-meet winning streak from 1965 to 1972, and a seven-meet winning streak between 2008 and 2009.
