The William & Mary swimming teams bring the dual-meet portion of their schedules to a close on Saturday, hosting the VMI Keydets at 12 p.m. at the W&M Rec Center Pool. Senior Day for the Tribe will get underway shortly before noon, with a brief ceremony recognizing and thanking the 12 members of the W&M Class of 2017. Combined this year's seniors have a four-year win percentage of .659 that is the best for any graduating class since 1973-74.
Scouting the Tribe Women
The W&M women's team downed Davidson last week, 164-124, to even the season record at 5-5 overall. With a win on Saturday, the Tribe will hit a notable milestones, including becoming the first team to go undefeated at home in three or more seasons (in a four-year span) since 1974. Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas), who ranks among the league leaders in the 50, 100, and 200 free, and has a team-best 15 wins on the year. Classmate
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) is the defending CAA Champion in the two backstrokes, and sophomore
Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.) has been on a tear in the distance free events, racking up seven wins and ranking top-three in the CAA in the 500, 1000, and 1650 free, as well as the 200 fly.
Scouting the Tribe Men
W&M's men's team, meanwhile, cruised past Davidson 181-107 to improve to 6-3 overall, and guarantee a program-record sixth-straight winning season. With a win Saturday, this year's seniors would become the first four-year class to go their whole career winning at least seven meets every year. Senior
Joe Eiden (White Plains, N.Y.) is the CAA's leader in the 50 and 100 free, and also has a team-high 13 wins. Freshman
Ben Skopic (Marriottsville, Md.) also had double-digit wins, with 11 so far and a CAA-leading and freshman-record time of 1:49.07 in the 200 IM, while his classmate
Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) has nine wins and has broken W&M's dual-meet records in every event from 500-1650, where he also ranks top-three in the CAA.
Scouting the Keydets
VMI's men's team comes into the weekend at 4-4 overall, picking up wins over Manhattan, Mount St. Mary's, St. Peter's, and Ferrum. John Kim leads out of the backstrokes, where he broke his own school record earlier this season at 51.81 in the 100 back, and Jarred Nagle has team-leading times in both fly events and the 200 IM. The women's team, meanwhile, is 2-7 overall and claims wins over Ferrum and Sweet Briar. Freshman Isabel French has already broken the team records in both breaststrokes this year, while Morgan Davis has set records in the 200 fly and the 400 IM.
