The William & Mary women's swimming team won 10 of 16 events Saturday and capitalized on its depth to pull away from Davidson, 164-124, for a road victory. The Tribe evened its record for the year at 5-5 with the win.
The Green and Gold were led by a pair of double-winners, including senior
Selina Fuller (Henrico, Va.). Fuller took top honors in both the 200 free, winning in 1:55.27, and the 200 back where she touched the wall in 2:05.89. Also with a pair was sophomore
Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.), who swept the butterfly events in 2:05.27 in the 200 fly, and 58.07 seconds in the 100 fly. Sophomore
Claire Williams (Apex, N.C.) won the 100 breast in 1:05.45, touching out her older sister Katy, a senior at Davidson), by just .09 for the victory.
Another sister act also worked in the Tribe's favor, as sophomore
Annie Miller (Houston, Texas) won the 50 free in 24.18 seconds, and senior
Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) won the very next event with a 51.25-second 100 free. Sophomore
Morgan Smith (Verona, N.J.) won the 200 IM in 2:10.58, and senior
Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) rounded out the individual winners with a 57.41-second victory in the 100 back. The Tribe also got a win in the 200 medley relay, thanks a team-up from Rittenhouse,
Annie Valls (Miami, Fla.),
Georgie Crompton (Brooklandville, Md.), and the older Miller who combined to swim 1:46.61.
William & Mary wraps up the dual-meet season next weekend at home, hosting VMI at 12 p.m. on Saturday, January 28. Before the first relay hits the water, the Tribe will take a moment to honor its senior class.
