Tribe Swimming Hits the Road for 2017 Opener at Davidson

The William & Mary swimming teams finally open up the weather-delayed 2017 half of their schedule this weekend, heading to Davidson on Saturday for a 1 p.m. meet.  The 16-event format can be followed live on the Meet Mobile app.

Scouting the Tribe Men
W&M's men's team comes into the weekend at 5-3 overall and 2-0 in the Colonial Athletic Association.  Senior Joe Eiden (White Plains, N.Y.) has been the team, and conference, leader all season long nad has 13 wins so far this year.  He is the CAA leader in the sprint freestyles, and has timed 20.43 in the 50, 45.04 in the 100, and 1:40.18 in the 200 free.  Freshman Chris Balbo (Short Hills, N.J.) has also been outstanding so far in his rookie campaign with seven wins, and Tribe dual-meet records in the 500 free (4:35.91), 1,000 free (9:25.49), and the 1,650 free (16:04.58).  His teammate, Ben Skopic (Marriottsville, Md.), ranks second to Eiden with 11 wins and broke the freshman record in the 200 IM (1:49.07) at the Hokie Invitational in November.

Scouting the Tribe Women
The W&M women's team is 4-5 overall on the season and 1-2 in conference play.  Senior Jaimie Miller (Houston, Texas) has been dominant this year with 14 wins, and leads the CAA in both the 50 free (22.81) and the 100 free (50.36).  Her classmate Sophie Rittenhouse (London, England) is the defending conference champion in both the 100 back and the 200 back, and has timed 54.87 and 1:59.01 overall.  Sophomore Maria Oceguera (New Rochelle, N.Y.) has also been swimming very well, and ranks among the CAA leaders in the 200 fly (2:02.41) as well as the 500 free (4:55.08) and the 1650 free (16:50.44).

Scouting the Wildcats
Davidson is 1-6 on the year on the women's side and 1-5 for the men, but despite that, boasts several of the Atlantic 10's top performers.  For the women, Elise Lankiewicz leads the conference in five events and ranks top-10 in four more.  She was named the A10 Swimmer of the Week for the fourth time, after winning the 500 free (4:56.11) and the 200 free (1:50.04) against UNCW.  For the men, Crossan Cooper ranks top-five in the Atlantic 10 in four events.  He also had a win against the Seahawks to earn A10 Swimmer of the Week, timing 9:42.87 in the 1,000 and taking second in the 400 IM at 4:09.16.
